I Like It When . . . Board Book

Great book!
My 12 month old loves this book and so do I. It's very simple and sweet. It's also age appropriate. It's not too long and the pictures are bright and straight forward. Now that my little guy wants to sit on my lap and read, this idea of age appropriateness has become very important to me. I have found that I can really engage him and read for much longer periods of time by reading many shorter books. Our longer board books seem to lose his interest before we can get to the last page.As other reviews mentioned, another great thing about this book is that because of the simple art work, the adult penguin could be imagined as a mamma, daddy, or grandparent. It could be anyone, and the same thing goes for the little one. I think that's one of the reasons both my husband and I love to read this to our son.The last thing I wanted to mention was that typically I do not buy books based on television characters. It's just a personal preference... But, this book is very sweet. Just like me, you don't have to know the show or the characters to really enjoy it!

Cute book, my 2 year old still likes to hear it and we play along most of the time
Cute book that my 2 year old loves to hear a few times per week before bed. It engages your child because it says, 'I like it when you hold my hand" for example, and then naturally you hold hands for a minute before changing the page. I also think that the last two pages of this book got my son to start saying I love you more often before I left the room to go to bed.We originally checked this out as a library book and decided it was worth buying. It's nice and short too, so it's a good book to save for the last couple minutes before bed time.

Great for connecting with your child
My 22 month old daughter just loves this book. Each page has a small sentence that begins, "I like it when..." and ends with something a child would like, for example, "you let me help", "we splash about", etc.The pictures with their primary colors and penguin illustrations always elicit a smile, and the words with their simple messages convey heartfelt feelings to mother and father and child. We enjoy acting out the pages, especially when it comes to giving hugs and kisses. During mealtimes, when we try new things, I remind my daughter of that page in the book, and she gets very excited.I truly feel that this book is more than a book to teach reading...it is a book to teach connectedness between parents and children. And that is far more important at this age, maybe at any age.

Bright bold colors and joyful text make this book a winner
Like Goodnight Moon, The Runaway Bunny, and others, this is one book that should be in everyone's library. The images are bold and colorful, engaging babies and toddlers. Tender prose describes their everyday activities. Very good for those with an ASD, as it gives concrete information of daily activities in a predictable way. Highly recommended for a good first read aloud book.

Wonderful Book to Read with Child
I bought this book based on the reviews that I read and was not disappointed--it is one of my favorite books to read with my toddler. The gist of the book: A parent penguin tells his/her child what they enjoy doing together. Examples include the following actions: I like it when we....hold hands, read together, try new foods, help me (picture of baby penguin trying to sweep with a broom), splash together (baby penguin splashing in tub), dance together, tickle you, etc. Many of these "actions" you can do with your toddler while you're reading it, which helps to reinforce the action. It's a great book to cuddle and read together. I highly recommend it.

A special moment still and my baby is now 3
I started reading this book to my son when he was an infant. On the page where it mentions a kiss, I kiss him, a tickle, I tickle him and hold his hand on the page it mentions that. He always asked for this book, over and over. And now he is three and too old for the book but still loves the story. Sometimes when we are walking I will recite a few lines and it takes us to those special tickle, kiss moments. I cherish this book and bought it again in board book for my now 10 month old. Thank you Mary Murphy!!!

Favorite bedtime story!
I frequently give this book to friends with baby gifts because it was one my kids' favorites. It is a quick read, but the fun is in acting out all of the "I like it whens." (I like it when you tickle me, read me stories, dance with me, try new things, etc.) The perfect way to end bedtime reading, it closes with a kiss goodnight and "I love you." Although it is short, it manages to be fun and heart-warming and always made me feel closely connected to my kids through our shared re-enactment of the story.

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR BABIES TO TODDLER AGE
We had this book given to us by the Health Visitors for encouraging babies and children to read/interact with books and our son since he was one and now our little girl have just loved it and I would say it was there first favourite book. It has simple every day happenings in it as a routine and the pictures are very simple too, in fact so simple an adult can miss the appeal in them if you just happened to pick it up and glance at it but it really appeals to older babies and young toddlers.

The pictures are great too. A real favourite
Bought this twice now, once for each a child. Something very simple and heart warming about this book. The pictures are great too. A real favourite.Warning this review contains spoilers.............I love the last two pages when there is a break from the 'I like it when....' formula, replaced with the simple 'I love you. I love you too.'

Beautiful book
I purchased this book for my niece as my daughter had a copy when she was younger and absolutely loved it - it became a real family favourite. This version is a strong board book which is more suitable for little hands. My daughter loved reliving her memories when she saw it! Wonderful!
