Practical advice
I am starting from scratch with a new property and wanted to have an understanding of permaculture. This book is very easy to read and understand the principles being addressed. I have been gardening and raising animals for many years, but many of the concepts were new to me. Of course there were some chapters such as composting that I was quite familiar with. I feel that this book would be helpful for anyone just starting out, or someone who already has had some experience gardening and dealing with livestock.

Good book to explain permaculture
Long on philosophy, short on specifics. Excellent book to explain permaculture with some good examples. You will need to work out what to plant yourself or get a garden planner that uses this system. Just bought the author's planner but hasn't come yet. I will update when I receive it. Update: I received the garden planning book and it is better than most I have seen. It walks you though the process from start to finish. I saw Bill Mollison's book (revised 1997) on Amazon. 576 pages! Good book, but not for everyone.

I found this book an easy to read motivational book. There is a lot of information in this book and I have read it about 3 times now and continue to learn the benefits of following mother nature's lead. I recommend reading to anyone wanting to explore permaculture as there are good practical steps throughout on how to.

Good starter for permaculture and sustainability
I have not read many books cover to cover but this one I did. I just started getting into gardening and found myself outside more observing. Several videos later on permaculture from YouTube and I decided to get a bit more understanding of it. This is a good starter on the journey to a sustainable way of growing food and providing peace to your soul while doing it.

Solid book on the topic
I guess I now have a comprehensive understanding of permaculture fundamentals. It explains perfectly the issue and includes helpful images to make it easier to comprehend. It contains a wealth of useful information and portrays permaculture as a simple and achievable goal for everyone. The book is well-organized and provides an easy-to-follow guide to following the appropriate concepts that permaculture has to offer. Excellent point of view and practical use of permaculture in everyday life. I highly suggest this book to anyone interested in learning more about permaculture gardening and putting it into practice. Any gardener's reference library should have this book.

Basic beginner information
I didn’t find this book to be a practical guide like the title suggests. If you’ve never heard of permaculture, it provides a general understanding of it. I think a little internet searching can get you the same information, but I can also see this book being good for a complete newbie that doesn’t want to do their own research on introductory principles.

NOT just another homesteading book
I probably buy just about every homesteading and permaculture book that comes out, always looking for those little nuggets of information that I can apply to my own homestead. A lot of these books tend to blend together after a while but Sophie McKay's book is definitely a refreshing entry in the category. It is well-written and edited with lots of practical information presented in a clear manner. For people just getting introduced to permaculture, this is an excellent place to start and may be all you need to get going. I especially appreciate the sections on soil health and composting since those are things that often get downplayed by many people but are so important in a permaculture setting. Soil health can be an incredibly complex topic, but this book provides some good basics on that topic. If you are interested in permaculture, this book is a great one to have on your bookshelf!

Practical and Comprehensive
A practical and comprehensive guide to the principles and practice of permaculture. This book helps make permaculture approachable, from small backyard gardens to larger homesteads with livestock, orchards and woodlands. Much to learn and contemplate and so important in our fast changing world. There’s nothing better than an eating a meal you’ve grown yourself.

Half useful half anti-useful and embarresing.
If you wanted a practical manual with genuine knowledge and not mixed with a pseudo religious manifest of natural explained as some sort of mysterious benevolent force at the same time yer up for a dissapointment, it plods on and on about its ethics and its natue before getting to any useful bits. Should be frequently sold with tippex wich is what i use to redact the blabbering nonsense and the roughly other half of the what now is more of a pamfplet, is not so bad but still so i gave it 2 stars for the actually useful bits, three stars removed for the work involved one must invest before making it readable and the suffering sustained while reading it.With this i think i have been very nice indeed.
