Vivid colors, so smooth
I'm usually into watercolors, but I've tried a number of brands of craft, student and artist quality gouache, but I hadn't tried designer gouache as it sometimes uses less lightfast pigments. That being said, this ShinHan Professional Designer Gouache is wonderful - I prefer painting with it to any other gouache I've tried. The smoothness is second to none. It's not sticky, it doesn't streak, it's not thin or too thick. It's got a perfect consistency that is so satisfying to use. I mostly paint on cold press paper, and the paints are smooth like buttah - only bettah. The colors are bright, vivid, and quite saturated, bit chalky, and they range from fairly opaque to opaque. Or you can use them with lots of water for transparent colors, use them sparingly on your dry brush to get great dry-on-dry textures.I'll be adding a few open stock colors to this set, but this is a very nice set, and the tubes are large enough to really enjoy. And they're a good value, too. I'm so glad I decided to try them.

Inexperienced but amazed
This is my first time purchasing designer gouache, I wanted to start small and I researched like crazy before settling with these for my upgrade. I know Holbein is a popular brand, and I have their acrylic gouache, but as far as the watersoluable/color gouache, I will just continue to stick with these and slowly upgrade my colors as I can. Thanks to the himi jelly cups being so popular, I knew there was something better and difference was so astonishing to me!. These are extremely vibrant and I could not believe the color that each tube provided! Application is easy, they are lovely with color and brightness, blending is amazing and smooth and they dry quick enough for me! It really does make all the difference in the brand you buy. And this has just proven that quality over quantity matters. Invest in yourself the first time because going the cheap route does not show you the full love and satisfaction a new art medium will possibly bring you!

Great Quality Set
These are great, especially for the price. Creamy and vibrant. Would recommend getting an additional white because you will need it. I also got a grey and a beige to reduce having to use so much white for lighter colors. I intermix these with some Windsor Designer Gouache colors and Holbein with no problem.

Beautiful Paints, some thoughts about performance, color selection, and first tries
ShinhanSet of 12Some of the nicest, smoothest gouache I’ve painted with. Perfect consistency for my painting. No brush drag. Paint is vibrant and well pigmented. It won’t always cover in one sweep. It dries consistently mat. 8 of the 12 have 3 lightfast rating, while the other 4 have a 4, including two blues and black. I wonder why white has a 3 rating. This is a nice basic range of colors for painting with cool red, greens, and blues, but no cool yellow. The warm red is scarlet and on the orange side. It comes with a nice violet, but it would’ve been nice to have an ochre as the only brown in the set is sienna which is a very nice, rich color. A couple tubes were a touch runny, but not like Winsor Newton separation running out of the tube. They were still well saturated and covered well.I would rather have had a set of 12 with two mixing sets which would’ve required a cool yellow and a red not quite as orange as the scarlet, perhaps a medium cadmium. But I might look for individual tubes to make it more complete. They offer two 24 sets also. The A set is a fabulous mixing set with warm and cool options. They really should have made a dedicated mixing set in 12, but maybe they do know what they are doing. The color Viriidian is PG7 and is actually pthalo green. It’s single pigment, but should not be called Viridian or hue. Just call it what it is. It’s a vibrant green leaning towards blue. Most gouache is not terribly lightfast. Their ratings (and they test) are atypical, but they claim III is permanent, so you could conceivably sell the artwork. Performance-wise, they glide across paper with ease, cover well, and are richly pigmented, vibrant paints, with fast drying and all of the best qualities you’d expect from a designer pigment. They cover better than Schmincke and I like them better than Winsor Newton (the properly mixed paints). I got my set for 33ish dollars on sale. They’re well worth it, but whether they are for you depends on what qualities you need in a paint. Some people might like thicker paint. For me, these are perfect. And they would be great for anime painting, cards, illustrations, or painting hard-edged, geometric paintings.

Great value, good gouache
This brand hits a great balance of quality, quantity, and price point, especially with this set. I'd tried other, cheaper brands of gouache and the consistency was so awful, but this gets you a good number of tubes and a decent range of colors without breaking the bank. It's a great pick if you want to dip your toes into the medium.

Great set!
I bought this as my beginner set of Gouache after years of being a watercolor artist. It is a great set with very pigmented colors. They mix together well and can be re wet after drying to use again. I ended up buying their other two sets as well!

The paints are nice
I’ve been using Windsor & newton and Holbein before trying these paints so I didn’t expect to really like these paints as much as I do. These may be my new favorite. Nothing wrong with the other brands, but at this price point I don’t see myself buying the others again.
