The Real Hero of the Story
The influence of John Piper in the late 20th and early 21st century has been incalculable for the good of the resurgence of the centrality of Christ and the glory of God - in a culture and church that has been centered on humanity. Finally, the co-founder of Children Desiring God - Sally Michael - is making her curriculum available in book-form for parents and young people. Sally is the Minister for Program Development and Resources in the Family Discipleship Department at Bethlehem Baptist Church (Where John Piper has pastored for the past 30 years), in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Traditionally (in the past 100 years) curriculum and books for children have focused on mankind being the hero's of the biblical stories - "Dare to be a Daniel," or "Be a Ruth in your generation." What Children Desiring God resources have done is make theology - the Triune God - in the Person of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit the rightful heroes of each story in the Bible. The Bible is a book about God, not us. It's about our need for Him, not His need for us. It's a book that shows that History is His-story, not ours. This book honing in on God's character and nature through His names is relational, interactive, understandable, theological, applicational, and encourages prayer, Bible study and worship in each lesson. There are 26 short lessons that are packed with God at the center of it all.If you want your children to be God-focused, and others oriented, then look no further than this book. I hope that more books from Children Desiring God are coming soon. In a man-centered culture and church, it is absolutely essential that we get back to the core teaching of the Bible - the centrality of Christ, the Gospel, and God at the center of all things.

This book is a must have!
My family is loving this book so much and it will be a book we keep and use for years to come. I am also planning to gift it to other families we know with young kids. This is a beautifully written book that powerfully describes the names of who God is. Even my husband and I have learned from it and it is teaching us all more of who God is and how He provides for us. Thank you to the author for this beautiful gift of her words and love for the Lord! The suggested activities in the book are also simple enough to actually do and they help leave a lasting impact to help us remember. Can't recommend this book enough!

Excellent resource to discover who God is
I highly recommend this book for it's amazingly relevant content! Believers need to start at the beginning. WHO is God? Who does He say that He is? What do His names tell us about the way we should relate to the world around us and to Him? This book attempts to answer these questions and more. A great resource for a Not-so-new believer who is familiar with the old testament stories. I created a youtube playlist with songs about the different names of God to be used during the study of this book, and beyond. My 5 1/2 year old was only mildly interested-she was able to participate in the activities, though. The songs really helped get her and my 3 year old involved in learning. My 8 year old was old enough to read the pages herself, and read her own scripture. She answered questions, and made insightful observations. I would say it would be good for 7 and up. Repeat the book every few years to glean more and more from it. I surely got alot out of it, myself.

Excellent book
This is a very well written book. Had fun illustrations. It keeps the kids attention. You can either read directly from it or use it as a guide. I used this for Jr Church and it was perfect.

Knowing God Better Through His Names
I purchased this book as a resource to use as I prepare for grand children to come for "Grandma Camp." Not only are various names of God described, but after the discussion of each of God's names is a section entitled, "Learning to Trust God." This section suggests further Bible references and practical activities to apply each particular name of God to everyday living. The book is attractively illustrated, easy to read, and very user friendly. It's an easy way for even adults to acquaint themselves with some of the wonderful names of God.

My kids loved the stories and learning the names of God
We went through this book as a family for devotions. My kids loved the stories and learning the names of God. I liked how Sally Michael tied this all in to how each OT name of God is found in Jesus. This is a book we will refer to for a long time to refresh our memory. Our youngest was 6 when we read this and it was a little advanced for her, but right on target for our 12 and 10 year old.
