Q: What would be best material to used on the service that would hold up to a hot cup of coffee?

I used rubber stamps, StayZon ink and alcohol markers to color my tiles. And I only sprayed a few light coats of AV protector acrylic spray just to prevent the colors from fading. Heavy coatings of acrylic just "melted" when I used a hot cup. But these tiles are really absorbent and work great with the alcohol markers. Note: If using alcohol markers avoid using the paintbrush tip as the "stone" surface degrades the tip. I used the small nib end instead.

When I put heat on me mines which was pretty high heat It didn't crack!! But it was to hot to touch lol!! To be honest I don’t think these would handle it what you want to do!!

Q: what type of glaze should I use on the tiles before painting with Alcohol inks?

Use unglazed tiles for painting with alcohol inks. Alcohol inks adhere best on unglazed tiles. You should also put spray fixative or clear nail polish on the painted tiles so that the dried alcohol inks do not flake off.

Q: What are the dimensions of the coaster holders? How tall are they?

With the cork backing they are about 5/16 thick.
