The Party Crasher: A Novel

Another book based on the concept of people never comparing notes...
This book would have ended in two or three chapters if 1. Everybody in it weren't British, and 2. Therefore everyone was hesitant to complain, explain, or show evidence that would shut down all doubts. The whole notion of the stiff upper lip is taken to unbelievable extremes here. The youngest daughter in a family sneaks into the party celebrating the sale of her beloved childhoodhome, a party her father's younger Spanks-wearing girlfriend did not invite her to, to search for the one thing she failed to retrieve the last time she saw her former home. She ends up recruiting her ex and her sister when sneaking proves more difficult than she expected. Discomfort ensues...We learn that Effie never told her siblings about any of her strange interactions with Krista, or that her father never replies to her calls or voicemails. If she had, her siblings might have listened. They never got through to their father either. But grown British children never complain to each other; what if they're the only one being ignored? So no one says anything to the father for hundreds of pages. This is just plain stupid.

She is one of my fave authors. I couldn’t wait to read this-but I thought it was boring, hard to get through, didn’t have that laugh out loud factor, very predictable. I struggled with reading this to end Bc I found it so boring. Very disappointed. The shopaholic series and twenties girl were my favorites-I hope there are more books with that kind of humor, relatability and Witt in the future

Love Sophie Kinsella
I love Sophie Kinsella books. They are almost always a great read. This one was no different. The story goes that Effie is the baby of a family and her dad and step mom who raised her break up. He meets a new woman and sells the house Effie and her older two sibs were raised in. Before they move Effies dad and his girlfriend have one last shindig to say goodbye. There is only one problem. The girlfriend and Effie hate each other and Effie wants to get some of her stuff out of the house. She uses her sister and an old boyfriend to help out but while hiding learns some things she wasn't ment to know about that changes her view on the family. All in all a great book. The one thing about it that I've mentioned in other books by Sophie Kinsella is that Effie is exactly like every other main character written by her. I can't differentiate her from Rebecca Bloomwood Brandon from the Shopaholic books or any other main character they all seem to be carbon copies of each other.

I’m in Love
I completely love this book. It’s so fun and well-written and purely enjoyable to read. I think it’s the best book Sophie Kinsella has written in years. It starts with an intriguing premise. And there are all kinds of secrets to discover. And the struggles of the characters pull at your heart but not enough to make you sad. Everyone changes, grows, relationships pulling apart and coming together. Funny bits and beautiful moments. I don’t even know how to say it all, but I love it. I loved every minute of it. My only regret is I can’t read it again for the first time.

Super cute, enjoyable!
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know I’m a huge Sophie Kinsella fan. While I haven’t read her Shopaholic series yet, I’ve read every one of her standalone novels. The Party Crasher is her latest, published in October 2021.This book is super cute. It’s everything I love about Sophie Kinsella—light-hearted, humorous, girly, a little bit of drama, and a little bit of romance. I loved it!The main character, Effie, is having a hard time dealing with her parents divorce. To make matters worse, her dad has found a new (younger) girlfriend and the two are now selling her childhood home. The family is throwing a “house cooling” party—the opposite of a house warming party, to say good-bye to the house. Effie is determined not to go, but she has to get into the house to get something she left behind. It’s amazing how much of a story can be told while the main character is hiding behind a rosebush or in a closet! I didn’t know how that was going to go at first, but it went along just fine. The story is very enjoyable.

Laugh out loud funny
If you are a Sophie Kinsella fan, this won't disappoint. I had bouts of laughing out loud in an empty room as I was unable to contain myself. It might not change the trajectory of the world or cure cancer, but its a delightful moment to remember what's really important and have a laugh. Loved it!

Slow Start, But Worth It
At first I worried this was a klunker. Yes, even great Authors occasionally produce one. I stuck with it thru the early schmarm and shtick and was rewarded. Fun, LOL, silly, and GOOD!

How can you not love Sophie Kinsella?
Another great read. A book filled with misunderstandings, love and redemption. Keep cranking them out please! Wish you published more than you do! And sooner! Thank you

She is loosing her touch??
I am a big fan of Sophie's books so could not wait to read this. This book lacks her usual sense of humour and is very predictable. Also very confined in space and characters. I would say l was bored and it wasn't the usual page turner so all in all l am disapointed!

Sophie Kinsella's worse book
Most disappointing. I usually enjoy Sophie Kinsella's books but this was a quite ridiculous story and not in the least bit funny like her other books. I read to the end too see if it impoved but it just got more improbable with esch page.

Absolutely brillian
As usual with a Sophie book you can't go wrong, they have everything, I loved hearing about Effie and her mission to find her Russian dolls, a big well done to Sophie on another brilliant read and I am a bit sad that I have finished it so.soon.

Not the usual brilliance
I couldn't wait for this and was so disappointed when I started reading it. I found Effie's world inauthentic and boring, and the overall story of the house dull and childish. This might have been better as a fairytale for children, but not for diehard fans of Sophie Kinsella. While I hope these reviews reach her, I also hope they don't because she'd such a great writer, not sure why her editor and agent didn't put a stop to this. Even Adele and Beyonce get told no.
