Q: Is it stackable if I buy more than one?

You can stack them but you wouldn't be able to flip the lid open on the bottom containers. The top is textured but flat and the bottom is flat so they'll stay put if you stack them.

Q: The lid seems very loose, like it should be tightened. Is this by design or is mine defective?

Mine has a little wiggle room at the screw end, so if yours does at least we match. I think that might actually be intentional so that there's a little play between the wood and the ceramic since the wood might swell if too wet or in a very humid environment. If you want to take the risk and tighten the screw, you can do it. (I didn't, but I know you can get the wood off the screw because I took the screw out of an earlier one that arrived broken after it was replaced by a new, unbroken one. You just need a teeny, tiny screwdriver head. Still not sure what I'll do with the wood top, but it was too nice to pitch.)
