Plenty of things you can do with it. It should keep most people happy in one way or another.
Bought as Part of a Package deal with the Fire HD 8.. so this review fits all components related... Protective Sheets/Cover/Fire HD 8The only thing it really needs is a No-Glare viewing screen and better high-level volume. Other than that it works perfectly after owning it for only a short period. If buying one, then get the cover, it is worth it the protect the screen and pause/stop where you are just by closing the cover. In hindsight: The No-Ads option is probably a good add-on buy to avoid marketing Ads. The Ads can get annoying when they come on everytime the screen sleeps, you turn it off and back on, or close the cover. The ability to download videos at multiple quality levels to save storage space is a great idea. I don't need HD to watch something while virtually waiting in line for other things to happen. The battery holds a strong charge and doesn't appear to die easily. I have used it for various things (Reading/Videos/Internet Browsing/Etc.) all day long and it maintains a charge without draining quickly.Once you have logged into a WI-FI area that needs authentication, you only have to do it once, and it keeps a record. This saves a lot of time for areas you regularly visit. If you RESET it for any reason, you will have to key in Auth/Passwords again, so don't reset it, OK?The sound level could stand a bit more volume at times, but you can use a headset if you have one, so it may not matter to some people. There are Apps that allow you to watch home movies (in the proper format of course) that have been transferred from your home computer. VLC Media is what I use now, but there may be others that work just as well. Just keep an eye on the size of the movie or it could be slow going as it is not a streaming movie you will be watching, but one stored in the Fire8.Plenty of Apps to choose from; both Paid and Free. The Kindle Library is a Good source for reading material and changing the pages is simply a flick of my thumb to the next page. Where you left off is recorded, so starting again is easy to do. The Kindle Fire is better than just a simple Book reader unless that is all you want to do.One last thing to the developers: Have one button available to kill all open Apps with a single choice instead of having to close them one at a time. Sometimes they can pile up without even trying.

Perfect sized tablet for performing all Amazon activities!
Bought the 32gb version on Amazon day at a fantastic price. Chose this model size primarily for comfortable and easy viewing of movies, videos while traveling and as one device alternate for Kindle books and listening to music at the gym. Love the size, pixel clarity and expansion memory slot (bought 128gb micro SD card too). From the factory, this tablet is clearly set up to simplify Amazon-centric activities like shopping, reading Kindle stuff, viewing/listening to prime media, etc, and it's well organized for those tasks. However, since the operating system is Android and I'm an Android guy, I also performed a few system tweaks to enable loading Google play store and several apps from there. I use Nova launcher and a launcher switcher to change my home screen view between the factory Amazon Fire screen and a customized more Google oriented homescreen that looks like my cell phone screen. Compared to my wife's iPad mini, the Fire HD 8 suits my needs perfectly for 60% lower cost. The only real downside is the very low quality camera... Pretty much useless. But, the camera is not why I got the fire tablet. The Fire HD 8 is a really well made, value priced budget tablet that performs it's intended functions reliably. I highly recommend it!

My Fire HD 8 fits securely in this attractive case
When I purchased my Kindle Fire HD 8, this was the recommended case at checkout. I purchased it thinking that an Amazon sourced cased should work and fit well. I'm very happy with my choice of this case both with its style/look and function. The price is much lower than that of the case in which I keep my Kindle Paperwhite but is still fairly expensive given the cost of the Fire.To my match my black Kindle Fire, I chose the charcoal black version which is actually a tweed style look in various shades of gray and black. It has the look and feel of fabric versus the plastic covers I have used on my Paperwhite. The inside is a black microfiber cloth for screen protection. It does not have an internal pocket. My Kindle Fire fits securely in the plastic shell and can stand both landscape and portrait with a flip of the case. The case has a magnetic cover which keeps it shut or open without the front cover having to be held manually in place. Whether the case is open or closed, the ports for charging, the MicroSD port and headphones as well as the control function buttons are exposed. When it is closed, the cover covers the speakers and the front facing camera lens. When the cover is fully open and folded to the back, the rear camera lens is covered (the front facing lens is fully exposed when the case is open.) If you wish to use the camera for photos or video while it is in the case, you can hold the front cover in your off-hand while it is in use.As I have a tendency to leave my Paperwhite on (and run down the battery fairly regularly), I appreciate that this cover automatically turns itself off and on when you close or open it.
