Q: Would this be good for sitting outside around a fire to keep the chill and moisture from the night air out? Is it machine washable?

I wash and dry mine. Do not wash with towels. It will pill up. It is a great weight for outside and is big enough to sit on for concerts. As for the moisture, well, it is cotton so it would become damp eventually from the night air if left outside.

It is 6 feet long by 4 feet wide approximately.

Q: How do I dry this blanket?

I am 100% a wash and dry person. I launder this in cool and throw in low heat to dry (which is my standard). It doesn't really shrink at all and the colors stay vibrant. DO NOT WASH WITH terry towels. The fabric will ball/pill up.
