Newhart: The Final Season

I DO have a life. This is good stuff!
Iβve always been a Newhart fan and even saw him live in Hartford CT. New shows are mostly woke bs. This is classic, excellent comedy. Iβm 65 yrs old.

This show (which I enjoy more than TBNS) finally got a full release
Shout Factory! has gone above and beyond to make it right for Newhart fans. They picked up after Fox gave up on the series. This show (which I enjoy more than TBNS) finally got a full release. Season 8 may have been hit or miss, but it has some real gems. Handymania, The Killer Aunt, Tim Conway, Seein Double, and the number one series send off of all time!! Who could ask for more? And if you're wondering, you do get the complete last episode, it runs over 26 minutes. I've never seen it fully assembled before, since I was only 6 when it aired originally. Most of the time you get the 22 minute version on TV, where they chop off 4 minutes. The video looks like it's a generation down, but it is still clear enough. There's one episode with tracking issues and there is a slight pause in one episode which might be a DVD mastering issue. Shout has gone above and beyond in making sure they give us full episodes, which most of them run close to 24 minutes. I wish Shout would have had Bob record an interview or a commentary. I would love to hear what Bob has to say about the last episode or maybe the other surviving cast members? But beggars can't be choosers, right? I know you will enjoy this release as much as I do!

Classic in many ways. Including sexism
Five stars because it is brilliant. This season sees the birth of Michael and Stephanie's baby, Baby Stephanie, who by the age of six months owns WPIV-TV and drcisions are made based on giggles and grunts. This brings about a horrid episode where a sit-com is made where Stephanie plays twins. But it also contains a brilliant episode with Nancy Walker (perhaps her last) as well as the celebrated classic finale that shocked the world more than any finale in TV history. There are moments of sexism that weren't even timely in 1990. Stephanie's parents offer to buy them a 1.2 million dollar mansion (think 8.6 today) with the condition that Michael change his last name from Harris to Vanderkellen. It's the perfect deal, yet Dick- the man responsible for reason- says to Michael, "You're willing to give up your name, your IDENTITY for a house?" "Are you saying I gave up MY identity?" Said Johanna. The following episode a guest who is unable to pay his tab, bestows Dick with The Lordship of Stratford on Chatham. But when Johanna says, "It might be nice to be Lady Louden" Dick tells her she isn't. Watching this series ENTIRELY is a commitment to discuss the blatant misogony that Bob Newhart fused into virtually every episode. If you're not prepared for that, do not watch it.

One of the best written comedies ever
I loved Newhart when it was first broadcast in the 1980s and I watched it each week when I was a teen for all eight seasons. I have always been a huge fan of Bob Newhart and had watched his first show when I was a child. Newhart is filled with the usual oddballs and eccentrics and set in an unnamed small town in Vermont. The final season of Newhart is probably the best and the very last episode was a truly inspired piece of writing that has gone down in television history as the best final episode of a television comedy. Newhart holds up to the test of time. It is a true classic.

moronic ending season
very disappointed with this last season as well as season 7. Both lack the humor of the previous seasons and both 7 and 8 are silly and not what you would expect from a Newhart show. I have even stopped episodes in the middle because they were so bad. Too much Stephanie and Michael time with the baby. Instead of humor that showed the naive simple backwards country life of the town's residents it makes them look like morons and even Dick Loudon becomes idiotic. I wasted money on a poor ending to what for 6 seasons was an endearing show which made one laugh often.

Some of the shows on the final disc were so bad I'm glad I saw them just for the experience
As a life-long fan of Newhart and having watched all the previous episodes, I have to say these final shows certainly do not live up to what I am used to from Newhart. Some of the shows on the final disc were so bad I'm glad I saw them just for the experience. In my opinion probably some of the worst sitcom I've ever seen. I noticed they did change writers in these shows so I guess that might be the cause. Sad to say, I feel this was a very disappointing climax to a fabulous previous seven seasons. I must add, though, the final show was.......cute. If you're a Newhart fan like myself you will still have to get this season if for no other reason than to complete the set. So, by all means get it.

Great show with lots of laughs
bringing laughs to the next generations . Glad these are reasonably priced to keep at home. In a day and age when entertainment is NOT what it used to be, simple laughs and stupid things are really great to help maintain some balance without compromising morals. Been adding to our series and recently completed it. So glad we have them.

Picture quality could be better. Story lines entertaining and funny
Picture quality could be better. Story lines entertaining and funny. I pre ordered the last season and even got a bit of a price break.I would have given a better rating if the picture quality had been better.
