‘Diversity is the one thing we all have in common. Celebrate it everyday’ - Churchill
Pennsylvania author Wesley E Donahue, PhD serves as a professor of Management Development and Education at Penn State University, as president of Centrestar Inc. a firm that provides leadership skills to professionals, and is a registered Professional engineer, a certified management professional, and author of three books – PROFESSIONAL ETHICS, BUILDING LEADERSHIP COMPETENCE and now FOSTERING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION IN THE WORKPLACE.Dr. Donahue opens his workbook by sharing, ‘There are a couple of things that I have learned over my career which have been reinforced by my global business travels. First, human beings have pretty much the same needs the world around, and second, the ”Golden Rule” of treating others as you would like others to treat you applies now more than ever. However, many times, people are lumped into groups and stereotyped by age, religion, race, gender, ethnicity, etc….We should all recognize that power differences in most organizations are a reality, fostering team efforts in the workplace takes effort, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is everyone’s job in today’s multicultural organizations, but their value and benefits to an organization cannot be understated The overarching objectives of this workbook are to help individuals appreciate cultural protocols, recognize that we are all different, and envision the benefits of fostering diversity equity, and inclusion in your workplace.’Basing the advice rendered on the Competency Model, this workbook instructs in a practical way the following concepts: understand diversity and inclusion in the workplace, be aware of culture in work relationships, consider differences in power and influence, navigate unconscious biases, communicate and enhance respect across cultures, recognize hot buttons and respond appropriately to conflict, improve workplace relationships, cultivate an inclusive culture, implement best practices, and value yourself. All aspects are accompanied by illustrations and photographs and workbook pages that stimulate the reader to learn – and employ – the advice proffered. Dr. Donahue is a fine instructor and his publication of this book – at this particular time – is a most valuable contribution to world peace. Recommended. Grady Harp, January 22

Learn the importance of supporting each other…
Fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace: A Competency-Based Approach to Understanding and Fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by Dr. Wesley E. Donahue is a straightforward and comprehensive guidebook in the Competency-Based Workbooks for Structured Learning series. It highlights 10 key concepts when it comes to diversity in the workplace, and how it is everyone’s job to ensure equity in the workplace, not just those being challenged and managers.I appreciate Dr. Donahue’s ability to foster appreciation of differences, versus valuing diversity over competency. I also like how he goes into depth, while also highlighting a simple fact—in the end, we’re all the same species, need the same things, and deserve respect from one another.

Valuable Information and Diversity
I was very impressed with how much valuable information this book contains, especially on a topic that I don't often read being discussed and highlighted in business topic books--which is about diversity. Leaders couldn't be called a leader without a 'team', and this book explored quite perfectly the importance for each member to feel that sense of belongingness and how it impacts their work performance and communications all throughout the company and personal relationships. I highly recommend this book for every professional and there's no doubt that this has taught me quite a lot of valuable knowledge that I will surely bring the next time I decide to return to the corporate world.

The importance of Diversity
Diversity might not seem very important to some; but in our world, knowing what diversity is, how it can help you and how you can foster it in your workplace; is a cornerstone of what this book is about. The author gives us some really good definitions, examples, scenarios for the concepts and all of this is rooted in his considerable experience.I really feel that this is one of those books that you will use over and over, lend it to friends and co-workers and dog-ear/highlight bunch of pages. It was well written, easy to understand, and really backed up it’s arguments with facts.
