CTA Tools 1042 Fuel Tank Lid Wrench - Compatible with Mercedes Benz

Performed a fuel pump replacement on a w164 08 ml63. I purchased a generic fuel pump tool for putting the cover back on. It requires a extreme amount of force to get it to lock in place. It was first installed with the tool and felt tight. I later go to the gas station to fill up after the job, and I started having a crazy amount of fuel leaking from underneath the car. Basically the fuel pump cover was not sealed enough so the system was not pressurized properly. As a result the fuel nozzle at the gas station couldn't detect the pressure and it never turned off. There is a overfill on the gas tank that will come out the bottom of the car. I lost a couple gallons of fuel and it scared me when it first happened that it was something more serious. The other tools simply do not provide the proper pressure around to turn it properly. This tool is extremely well built and will give you the pressure on all sides. Just buy this tool if you are doing the job, I was able to secure a open box for a fraction of the cost. Looks to be much better than the OEM Mercedes tool too.

good oem level tool

I'm a retired mechanic and have changed numerous fuel pumps with little problem. The fuel pump on my wife's 2010 Mercedes had me talking Chinese (and I don't speak Chinese). I tried several methods as well as an adjustable lock ring tool. It sits down in a well and is tough to access. I finally bought this little gem and Voila! It came off so easily that I couldn't believe it. Try it. It's worth the money.

Fits Mercedes X164 very precisely. It contacts every rib on the clamp, and spreads the torque all around. Makes it very easy to remove an old pump, even if it is stubborn. Also lets you easily torque the new ring to spec. 80 ft-lbs. You can't do that very easily with one of those junk adjustable 2-prong tools for $20. Strongly recommend this, even if you are only going to use it once or twice.
