Fantastic, down-to-earth resource
By far, my favorite pre-firstborn book, and I have read a lot of them! I would recommend this to anyone who would like solid, medical advice, in plain language, without feeling like they are being preached at. The author is obviously passionate about several subjects-- I would expect no less from any pediatrician-- but I do appreciate that "Dr. B's Opinions" are clearly called out as such.Several reviews "warn" readers that Dr. Brown serves as a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. It seems like that would be a positive, but what do I know. In this reviewer's opinion, Baby 411 gives balanced advice backed by up-to-date, relevant, scientific research. I suppose, however, I should offer a disclaimer about this book:I realize science has given us all sorts of crazy theories, like "evolution" and "global warming." If you doubt the veracity of those zany notions, you may not appreciate this book. Specifically, if you believe that an individual who received a bachelor's degree, then attended four years of medical school, then spent three years in a residency program focused entirely on children's medical care, then passed board exams and earned the right to put F.A.A.P. after the M.D. behind her name is somehow unqualified to offer medical advice about your child, then you will not enjoy this book. If, however, you value the advice of a professional who can speak in plain language without belittling you, this is the baby book for you.Do also check out Baby411.com; it's an excellent supplement to the book.

Informative, Well-Balanced, Straight to the Point, & Entertaining
I should have bought this book when I realized how incredible "Baby Bargains" was. I waited until my daughter was 4 months old before I bought this book and I wish that I had not waited so long. I will be giving this to everyone that I know that is expecting moving forward. This is very well-written. There is a wide variety of information that is up-to-date and straight-forward. It offers balanced information on hot topics without getting caught up in emotion. Too often author's of baby books get caught up in the political hype. However, if you are ever in doubt with anything regarding your child- check with your pediatrician. There is so much unnecessary "stuff" out there for new parents that it can be overwhelming. Marketers of baby items often times prey on the vulnerability of new parents. This author does not do that. In my opinion, the reviewers who thought that this author has a hidden agenda are clouded by their own agendas. This book offers parents easy to read information so that you can make the best decisions for you and your family. This is a must have for any parent who wants straight forward advice. I can't wait to read the follow-up book.

My "go-to" book for minor baby health crises
This is my go-to book for basic health questions about my baby. Unlike a number of other baby books on my shelf, the information is presented in just enough detail to be helpful in a minor crisis (A whole chapter on poop and vomiting? Yay!) Most sections about common symptoms and illnesses are very reassuring, but contain a useful "Red Flags" list immediately following that lets you know when you need to push the speed-dial number for your pediatrician. I find the reference section really helpful, particularly when I don't feel the need to wake my pediatrician at 1A.M. to ask a basic question about medication or illness. The authors do express strong opinions about some controversial issues, like circumcision and vaccination, which will turn some readers off; and I've seen a few parents who susbscribe to the attachment-parenting theory complain that some of the behavioral advice (specifically regarding co-sleeping and sleep training) is harsh or closed-minded. If you have your own strong opinions about these issues, ignore these sections of the book--there's lots of other useful information here.

The best
The most comprehensive child care book that is also easy and fun to read. There are some books that I got from the library or bought in anticipation for my first child that I returned because of one reason or another. I kept one pregnancy book and one child care book to keep with me for future children. This was the child care book. It covers everything you can imagine and is easy to navigate because of how well organized it is.

The "Go To Book"
My first grandbaby was about to arrive! I needed a book to bring me up to date on all the new techniques the moms of today are using! This book is it! Love it, it is honest, funny and written in an easy to follow format. PLUS it's a good size to hold and thumb through in a hurry, not big and bulky. Bought one for the new mom and it is now their go to book, and she bought MANY baby care books! I definately reccomend it for new moms and old pros. It is great.

Best basic baby book out there
I love this book. It was the only one that clearly and simply answered my basic questions about my baby's development and health. It's easy to find answers to questions right away without wading through hundreds of pages on "attachment parenting." This is a great book if you just want the straight facts about your baby's development and health without all the editorial.

Is this your first child? If so, you need this book!!
I love this book, it is a great resource. It is good if you have a short attention span. It gives the reader short, to the point snippets of information. I found some of the author commentary a bit unnecessary, but amusing.

A must have for new parents
This was something we referred to constantly as new parents. The information is great, insightful and realistic. The book speaks to you in real-life terms versus overly medical or psychological tone like most baby books do.A must have for any new parents. Sometimes you need a second opinion to support your instincts.
