Z Nation: Season 3 [DVD]

Stays good into season 3
Let's call this show what it is...the funnier but cheaper version of The Walking Dead. But don't take that as a bad thing!Z Nation is clearly inspired by the same source material that The Walking Dead is. Sometimes it's stuff directly from TWD graphic novels. Sometimes it's just similar situations that the two shows share. But where TWD is a super serious drama, Z Nation is basically an action comedy. I'm a huge fan of both shows and I think there is a place for each of them.Z Nation doesn't skimp on the zombies. There are a ton of them and the makeup is first class. The zombies look real and scary. Where it skimps is the set designs. When they do outdoor scenes it's always on manicured lawns and often next to buildings that haven't deteriorated 7 years into the zombie apocalypse. And they cut corners on the writing when it makes for an easier scene. For example sometimes the power is dead because it's the apocalypse but if the scene requires power suddenly lights and computers work. But it's largely a comedy series so you can easily overlook that stuff. (This same stuff would completely kill the alternate reality created on The Walking Dead. But it works for Z Nation who never claims to be that immersive)Season 3 keeps this show fresh. At least as fresh as a show about rotting corpses can be. It starts off with a flash back to events that occurred in early season 2 right after Murphy found his baby. These are events that were never depicted in season 2. It's more like they are showing you a 2 day period that occurred between season 2 episodes. And it's all done to retroactively introduce you to a new villain for season 3.Once the 'current' timeline picks back up in episode 2 they shuffle alliances and add a character. So the people don't get stale. And since Murphy has been delivered, which was the main story arc of season 1 and 2, they twist the plot up to give the survivors a new direction. (None of this is spoilers. If you've seen season 2 you know that the whole 'deliver The Murphy' plot has come to a close. I'm just telling you that they don't suddenly start standing around staring at each other. These find something else to do.)The show stays fun and entertaining. It's a good binge watch series. If you like The Walking Dead this is a good lighter hearted version of that same theme.

Oh man did I need that!
I've never been more depressed about a presidential election than this one. But this latest Z Nation with my two favorite grifters made my day. I loved Addy's line, "Yeah, we get it. Walls and holes." Man did I need that laugh! Damn is this series fun to watch.I had actually kind of put Z Nation out of my mind because I heard The Murphy was leaving the series. So far it doesn't look like they have any intention of writing him out. He's more central than ever. And I just have to mention the coolest visual ever: Murphy is sitting alone on his 'throne', casually paging through a copy of Machiavelli's The Prince. Man, you can almost hear him thinking, 'Hmm. That's interesting.' He's seriously like the coolest character on television. *All* the characters are awesome. But I kind of wish Doc would quit saying variations of "That's life in the apocalypse" every episode. It's too sound-bitey.This season is more serious than the last one so far. Which is great because the series is at its best when the cheese is kept to a minimum (like no giant cheese wheels running down a Wisconsin street picking up Zs). The stories are the right amount of silly. It's surprising how serious the series is, considering how they're often intentionally trying to be goofy. But I want to point out one thing I think Z Nation does better than almost all sci fi out there-- diversity. In Z Nation, 'diverse' means more than black. That Eskimo girl is pretty awesome! But mainly, even though Warren (the group's leader) is black and she's a woman, the writers don't make a big deal out of it. She's not single handedly taking on the zombie horde by herself because an insecure writer wants to prove to girls everywhere that women don't need men for anything. And there's no quips about girls being as good as boys every ten minutes that destroys the fourth wall. She's written as a friggin' human being, not as a spokesperson for her gender. How can that be such a rare thing in sci fi? I know people want different things from their viewing experience, but for me the zombie apocalypse is so much more fun when you can relate to the characters because they're written as real people.

I love the show
I love the show, but like another other reviewer, Amazon Prime Video streaming service sucks. They don't make the videos available when they are required to as per the sales agreement, that the streaming begins the day after airing. It's Sunday, September 18 2016 and the first episode of Z-Nation season 3 is still not available. It was supposed to be made available yesterday on Saturday. It's not the first time that Amazon streaming video has failed to put up a video on time for the paying customers that have bought a season pass.It does make me rethink whether I may switch to another streaming service. Although, Amazon prime video offers a good value to prime members, it does have a great many glitches like this one, especially if you pay for a season pass.Nevertheless, this Z-Nation TV series is awesome. It's funny and it makes the entire Zombie genre more palatable.I would vote 5 stars for the TV series... 1 Stars for Amazon Prime streaming service.

Suspenseful, Badass, Awesome!
What an awesome series! I loved the first two seasons on Netflix, and couldn't wait to watch the third season, so I bought it on Amazon Video. The twists and turns in this series are hilarious, and really make you think. I love how all of the characters have developed and become so badass, as well as all of the suspense it builds up. By the end of this series, I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next, and at the very last scene of the season finale, I couldn't believe what kind of cliffhanger they left us on! I can't wait for the 4th season!
