Great for every level of horse enthusiast!
First off, I wanted to state that I am a freshman studying animal science at Cal Poly. This quarter I am taking my first equine science class and I was greatly behind all the other students who grew up around horses. Many thought they knew everything as well. More so than the professor... You know the type.Well, I planned ahead and ordered these before signing up for my class and got the issue in the mail within two weeks. And needless to say, each issue has a wealth of information about equine care, medical breakthroughs, and tips. There are also featured articles by other veterinarians (on the medical part). The information presented is especially great for people who have little to no prior experience with horses (i.e. myself). It is always easy to understand and the articles will help you immensley with some of the terms thrown in class and outside the stables. Though the issues range from 60-70 (thin in my opinion), it is a very reliable and well put-together magazine for all levels of enthusiasts.I like how in depth some articles go into equine physiology while still keeping in mind that the reader is eager to learn about horses- not the complexity of the English language. That isn't to say that these issues are for simpleton's! The articles are very well written and have great source citations. Some articles even have debates between two reputable figures in the horse industry and let the reader decide which side is best. For the excellent pricing, well-written and informative articles, and up-to-date breakthrough articles, as well as a leg up in class, this is the one of the best magazines for animal science and horse owners alike!**Horse enthusiasts/judges**I would steer clear and get a different magazine. This magazine has very few (if any) full-page, 14 mega pixel, standing or action shots of horses with excellent conformation. The images in this magazine are nice, bearable, satisfactory for me. But it's no National Geography, that's for sure.

Great source of information on your horse
From beginners in the horse world to advanced equine knowledge this is a must on equine health, behavior and management. Going beyond just the basics the articles featured will bring an advanced knowledge of the horse. If you are just beginning your trip into the equine world you may not understand all the articles at first, but this will help you learn. As a beginner you may also want to invest in a book on the basics of equine anatomy and riding and keep it close by as a reference if you come across something you don't understand. The more you read the more your understanding of the equine world will grow. This magazine is a must if you keep a horse or want to know more about equine behavior, management and health. In the December issue the magazine puts together a guide for that years publications so you will be able to easily find an article written earlier that year. I save my magazines and use them for research when I come across something that I don't understand or would like further information on. A real plus of this magazine is you will stay up to date on the latest equine research and findings. A must if you own a horse or just desire more equine information.

Will pay for itself in great ideas
Equus is all the only magazine that most horse owners will ever need. It's inexpensive, informative for new and experienced horsemen alike, and well-written, -photographed, and -produced. I find the medical articles especially helpful in highlighting current medical problems and illustrating the best solutions with clear, instructive photos and directions. I clip an article from nearly every issue, and I've owned horses for10 years now. There's also been some great series on the origin of specific breeds. You'd think that an article about the origin of thoroughbreds would be a real snoozer, but it explained the lack of Triple Crown winners and the frequency of breakdowns at the track. So long as I own a horse, I'll get Equus, if only to stay current on the latest treatments.I received no compensation for this review.

Really love the magazine
Am disappointed that the magazine is no longer publishing monthly ... however understand the difficulties competing with the digital world. Always looked forward to reading it every month and don't care too much about accessing it on line. Have gone to find certain articles but will probably just enjoy the quarterly as is...

It's the best!
I subscribe to six magazines, I have been cutting back on my expenses but this magazine will be the last to go.This has been my favorite magazine for over a decade. I got in on the subscription when the magazine was a few months old. I keep all the back issues. What I like best is the medical education provided in each issue. I have learned about hooves, eyes, tendons, muscles, you name it! The current studies and worldwide learning are fantastic. It is a more advanced publication. If you are going to get ONE magazine and you want more than just fluff, this is the magazine for you.

SERIOUS DOWNGRADE from ORIGINAL
I subscribed to EQUUS for years from the first issue. Remember when it kind of died out. Thought I'd try the digital version and have to say there's virtually nothing in it. What information there was was very, very basic. I hope the trial issue was a fluke otherwise it's not even worth the $5 subscription.

Every horse owner should read this
I have been a subscriber to EQUUS for about 4 years. There are 2 other mags that I receive that I trust as well, to keep me informed on the latest findings in research, diseases, equipment, training, etc. With the three mags, I am better informed and can be the best participant in my horse's well being. I can trust what I read in EQUUS. Every horse owner should add this magazine to their list of subscriptions.THe other two magazines I receive are The Horse Magazine and the Horse Journal.
