A formula for a lean and successful start-up
I bought two copies of this book when I realized I wouldn't get to meet Marcelo in person at a speaking event in Cambridge. Marcelo's book starts with a preamble about his early entrepreneurial beginnings and moves on to his experience in corporate FMCG life. As a wannabe entrepreneur, I like Marcelo's book because he asks you to dwell less on the standard business plan and more on bare bones of what you really need to get a business started. He focuses on being lean in what you do up front, dispense with hiring when this is unnecessary and tasks can be outsourced, do you need a building ? And take a look at licensing models for inspiration. There are a number of exercises in the book that ask you to write down your ideas, your goals and your milestones along this path. Marcelo has walked the talk a number of times, and this book is a refreshing guide to putting a structure around your start-up approach in a modern context.
