A breath of fresh air into the stuffy monarchy business :)
What a fun book! I really enjoyed reading it.I loved the princess' backstory (former combat pilot and professional athlete, could she be more perfect?), and it added much to understanding her practical approach and her willingness to follow royal obligations. This backstory is so different from other literary princesses' backstories that it immediately stands out and differentiates this book from the regular "girl meets princess" premise. As I said, a breath of fresh air :)This is a very light-hearted, fun kind of book. I really enjoyed reading it and if I am honest, It lingered with me quite a while after I finished it. The story is similar to the Celebrity Romance trope but it features a main character who is a real-life princess instead of the more common movie star/ famous singer. The beginning is very promising as it features an anti-monarchist and a princess. However, the anti-monarchist turns out to be very open-minded and flexible with her opinions. While this is mediated through her growing acquaintance with the royal family, the change is too fast and drastic and it is somewhat disappointing because it leaves much less conflict for the couple to overcome. In fact, the conflict becomes something almost technical in its nature, and while it will always remain an issue, it can be mitigated.Having said that, the lesser conflict means the book remains light-hearted in nature and is very easily read, something which cannot be said for many other long novels. The main characters are well-developed, with a rich backstory. The supporting characters are sufficiently developed with just enough flesh to their backstory to make them substantial in the MC's lives.I love that one MC is POC and while it may become a conflict, the other MC doesn't consider this as an issue even for a second (her family does but she doesn't care and that's wonderful). I also love that the MCs are very honest with each other about their feelings and do not hide them from each other. They know what the obstacles are and they face them together. It is a joint effort.Oh, and I love the grandma :) She absolutely steals the show!T&T:Tropes: celebrity romance, rich girl/poor girl, royalty romance, single mom, opposites attract, interracial couple, fake relationshipTriggers: mentions of homophobia, mentions of racism, violence (shots fired), lack of privacy (paparazzi)Rating: 4 stars. It's fun and funny and a great read!

Solid Read
I thought this book did a good job of balancing a light/fluffy romance with bigger social issues of race, class, sexuality and disability. It was fake dating done well as the couple had to go on dates to keep up appearances and so we could see the gradual relationship development. (I've definitely read fake dating books where we are constantly told but never shown that the MC's are fake dating.) I also really enjoyed reading a royal romance featuring lesbians where the royal was also close enough to the throne for their to cause issues with the ruling monarch. I have also read romances where the royal was far enough away from ruling that the resolution was it doesn't matter if they are gay or who they marry. Of course the parents would still be elitist, but they didn't have to think as much about public opinion. And finally, I loved that Princess Alice was already out when this book began. Beyond the above, I really enjoyed Alice and Sarah's political push-and-pull. I love that, even though she softened somewhat, Sarah stayed true to her views and the same for Alice. I think that much of Sarah's criticisms were justified but so were Alice's when they came. Sarah's daughter sometimes felt like she should have been older than her seven years, but I loved the role that both she and the grandmother played in this book. They neither took over the story or felt like throwaways. And finally, the royal family. I enjoyed how the author portrayed them. Everyone felt like fully-actualized characters. The queen could be a bit much but she never felt like a villain (though I did roll my eyes a few times, especially at the slight miscommunication that she brings about). The slight revelation about the prince and his wife was interesting and their kids were great. There were a few instances when I wondered "where's Alice's security" but I do feel that the author did an overall good job of keeping us aware of Alice's royal status. Overall, this was a cute, funny read.

There really is nothing like a well written royal love story, especially one with a lesbian princess!
Lola Keeley has managed to bring the royal family up to date on quite a few fronts in this lovely story. She has a female war hero as a princess, a second in line to the throne with autism, a hint at marital infidelity, a loved one killed by paparazzi and a professional woman as the love interest who happens to be a single mother of an interracial child! Whew all that crammed into one delightfully written story line with fully developed characters. In my eyes it doesn’t get better than that.

Charming (😉) romance
SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: fake relationship, favorite trope, full-time writer, meet-cute, unusual jobs, possibly other categoriesThis was an adorable fake relationship story that stemmed from a generous kindness, instead of the standard where there's some type of personal gain. The typical challenges of class difference weighed on the MCs' concerns and decisions, especially since a child was involved. It was a slow-burn, mostly low angst, HEA story perfect for a sweet read.

engaging characters/ enjoyable read
A pleasant, well-written story without unnecessary melodrama or intrigue. It’s the first book in 2022 that I felt compelled to keep reading even when I was supposed to be working. The characters were likable and their relationship was enjoyable; sometimes you just need a good vacation read that takes you away from the mundane responsibilities of daily life and this is that type of book. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.

Unlikely Match
Princess Anne is a out and proud lesbian doing her royal duty when she clashes with a protective mother at a school event. Sara is not a fan of royalty but when her expertise in special needs education is needed for Alice’s nephew they reach a working relationship. Fake dating to protect the privacy of the boy is part of the deal and the sparks continue to simmer. A sweet romance and family centred story.

Great read
Perfect easy read, couldn’t put my kindle down. Good story line, not the ending I had expected but exceeded my expectations and has left me wanting even more of Sara and Alice’s story! I’ll definitely be exploring more of this authors work.

A contemporary fairy tale
This book is a modern fairy tale with a HEA, which I enjoyed reading very much because, though certainly fictional, it is anything but a superficial romance. Set in modern day Britain, quite a few social issues are addressed in this excellently crafted and well written story. Furthermore, there's a thorough and credible exploration of the emotional cost for a person growing up immensely privileged, yet relentlessly in the focus of public interest, as is the impact on someone whose life has so far been untouched by such an intense and intrusive scrutiny. Having come across Lola Keeley in an anthology of short stories, this full length novel is the first, but definitely won't be the last one I've read by this author.

Sweet Royal Romance
Very enjoyable and sweet. It didn’t seem out of the realm of possibility as Keeley tries to keep this as based in the real life as you can while hitting all the sweet spots for a romance. The kids nearly stole the show but you are rooting for the MC’s all the way. Thanks for putting this one on KU.
