It it a good splitter..
The splitter is good. You think it's too heavy but when faced with 24 inch across beech trunks it's not too heavy. Most of the time it splits first go. Bear in mind this is a pricey splitter and if you are a casual user then a cheaper one will work just fine. There is no magic with splitters (despite the marketing) whether it's a cheap one or an expensive one if you are trying to split a large piece of wood then you have to have a heavy maul and swing it hard - just because you bought a £100 hand made Norwegian hand made tool that is a thing of beauty it does not change that fact.I am a reasonably heavy user. I much prefer wooden handles but they don't last quite as long as fibreglass so I went fibreglass cos i want this to just last and last. It you are only splitting 10 logs per year a £20 wooden handle budget maul will do just as good. The real thing is does it stick? - not really no. And if on the very very rare time it does stick then how easy is it to get out - very easy.On the whole a very good tool.2 downsides.1- It arrives bluntish. Maul or axe or whatever you will always do better sharp so I just sharpened it up with a stone. Only took 15 mins. I would have had to regularly sharpen it anyway.2- The blade cover is actually very poor. It was split when arrived. Now you may say send it back but it is so bad that getting an unsplit blade cover back in return isn't worth the effort.Maul - very good. Cover - so bad it's beyond belief. For £50 you should get a good cover so 3 stars.

Bahco Maul - Fibreglass Shaft
Just arrived today and three wheelbarrows done in a test run: wish I'd bought one years ago. Works well on all sorts of wood: hard stuff to damp Scots pine. Significantly better than a standard axe.

Champion Log Splitter
As a tree surgeon found this maul will go through hardwood logs up 12" thick quite easily and splits smaller ones with little effort; highly recommended.Half the price of Stihl equivalent so good value.

Five Stars
Heavier than I am used to, but works to advantage as it works under it's own weight. Well made.

Fantastic, must buy!
I've a lot of Bahco tools, and their build quality and design is hard to beat. This splitting axe is no exception. Simply fantastic. Rugged and well weighted, your back will break way before this axe as you split your way through even the toughest bits of wood.
