Studying the Shack: Reading Group Guide

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Shack". There were so many situations in it that made me think about what I really believed, what I took for granted, and what was actually biblical. Often something would let me see a concept in a completely different light than I ever had before. So when our group decided to study it, I really didn't expect to discover much more than I already had. I was very mistaken. (Disclosure: Dan is a member of our group.) Dan's book proved an excellent guide for provoking discussion and looking at whole concepts that were completely missed in my first read. I am sure that you will find this guide a valuable tool for getting the most out of "The Shack". And I highly recommend that you consider using "The Shack" for a topic in any small study group. It was a fantastic topic!

excellent study guide to accompany The Shack. The Shack is a very convoluted story which requires multiple readings and the results often provide different aspects of the story. The study guide has helped me stay more focused.

I use this book as a part of my CCD classes for High School students. The guide helps to bring out some of the more salient parts of the book through the probing questions.Good Job!

With our group study of the book, the study guide gives us added thoughts and questions to discuss to make our study and the book more meaningful.

Since this book is an allegory of one persons walk through healing after a tragedy I would have expected the focus to be more on living in God's healing love and less on what we as Christains should be doing. The book focused on relationship not rules of behavior. I feel that Mr. Phillips totally missed the whole meaning of The Shack. Some of the questions were thought provoking. Another thing is his questions were leading so his thoughts were in the question leaving little room for individual ideas. Very disappointed.

This provocative book is an exceptional study guide for a thoughtful book that shakes your traditional concept of God and his relationship with you. It provides a marvelous, change of pace spitual study that allows participants to really examine what they believe.

This book is not bad, but honestly, I felt the questions I developed on my own were better for my study group.If you are new to teaching or leading a group discussion, you might find it helpful.

I haven't started this yet but it looks to be a very good read. I am looking forward to using the study guide in the New Year.
