The Opéra: Volume X (The Opéra)

The Opera has been a welcome mainstay of presenting nude photography in a dignified well designed large format.Got this issue because it included the graceful studio portraits by Maxim Vokhovskiy of young Black women.I like that this magazine had a lot of diversity of approaches in it of presenting the human form. While the photos didn't wow me, I realized they weren't supposed to wow me. In baseball terms these were base hits, a few doubles and a home run or two. I think more and more photographers are leaning the Tyler Mitchell way of being as "free and effortless" as possible instead of swinging for the fences iconic in one image, but using a multitude of work. Like in "Moneyball" with baseball analytics, this magazine showcases nude photography that focuses on making hits, getting on base and diversity.It's a winning formula.
