Salsa: The Motion Picture

Great Music and Sexy Visuals...
If you can get past the opening 10 minutes, this tacky Golan Globus production can be great, nostalgic fun. It seems like the director was attempting to make a traditional "Musical" where the characters break out in song... After the opening, cringeworthy numbers, "Mucho Money," and that Elvis cover they abandon that formula and go for a more straightforward romantic drama, with a colorful Miami backdrop as the setting. Most notable for the rare appearance of the late Rodney Harvey, this is one of the very few films of his where he takes a co-starring role.. His best friend Rico is played by former Menudo front man Robbie Rosa, and the light story involves romantic jealousies when Ken (Harvey) begins to date Rico's little sister Vicki, who is a real stunner.. and not so "little.." At the heart of the story is Rico's ambition to grab the title as the "King of Salsa" in the local nightclub "La Luna.." In order to do this, he must woo the Queen Bitch Luna, the self proclaimed Queen of Salsa.. More jealousy ensues as the older woman attempts to come between the young lovers Rico and Vicki... Of course the real draw of "Salsa" is the sexy dance numbers, and some truly unforgettable songs. Finally available on bluray in a wide screen print, after many years of the lousy cropped, 4x3 DVD from MGM... Fans of "West Side Story" and "Saturday Night Fever" should enjoy this... Just check your brain at the door and enjoy the celebration of Salsa music and Latin culture..

The dancing is awesome.
The dancing and music is wonderful, but the story itself could be better. The dancing in this is the same moves that you see in dirty dancing. You will also see this one woman that was in Dirty Dancing, she played the rich woman that came up on weekends. She also is in the movie "The forbidden dance". She is a wonderful dancer. Also there is a male dancer in the movie that was in and helped show the characters in "Havana Nights Dirty Dancing" how to dance.

Salsa. What a disappointment!
Being a big fan of dance movies including Dirty Dancing and Center Stage, I read the customer reviews about Salsa and decided to give it a go. I wasn't expecting a good story line or even good acting, however, I was expecting good choreograpny! Unfortunately I didn't get the latter, I found the dance pieces completelty boring, with no complex or inspiring movement, frankly the only thing that kept me entertained was Robby Rosa's hair style! I find it very difficult to believe that the man who choreographed Salsa also choreograped Dirty Dancing for there is definitely no comparison!

Can't watch it.
I have not been able to play the DVD because it was recorded in Italy and any of the DVD players I try to play it on says wrong region.

Wasn't the film that was ordered!
It wasn't the film that was advertised. It's a completely different film all in French. I will say though that it came quickly with a sweet hand written note.

Brilliant
I loved this film when I first saw it, I had it on video but since getting rid of my video player I never thought I would be able to get it on dvd as this film is quite old and not something most people would go for, so I am really happy.Really good quality and fast delivery.
