The translation is good, but there are no breaks between characters' lines making this version virtually impossible to read.example from location 167:Oedipus. Cleon. 'Twas not oneman...Fix the spacing and I'd give it more stars.

This is an awesome book. I loved the conversations between the various characters. It was like a movie within the mind. Even though it is Greek mythology, this myth is so Egyptian-esque in nature. It has a Sphynx for crying out loud. This is a MUST HAVE BOOK!!! If you like myths, Egyptian or Greek you will LOVE IT. Ok you like classic literature you will ADORE IT. If you just want to find a good book this is for you.TIP: If you see a one word sentence with a name of one of the characters it means that character is speaking.

I actually enjoyed the book through voiceover on my ipad. If i would have not used my voiceover, I may have not read the book. I have watched the play before reading the book. This will help with the understanding of words used during this era or time.

A very interesting play to read, and a sad one as well. The diction takes some getting used to though. I recommend this play for those who enjoy good classics, but be mindful of the translation and it's potential difficulty.

It was a bit difficult to read in this format. The speeches were not separated but one long paragraph page after page.

I choose this book partly because I have many translations of it in book form my favourites being by E.F.Watling, Robert Fagles and Don Taylor. I am always interested in a version that I have not seen before. It was written during a period when verse translations were quite popular. (cf. Dorothy L Sayers renderings of Gottfried von Strasburg's Tristan and her version of the Nibelungenlied.)It actually reads quite well once you get in the spirit and the language use then extant. I am not sure whether it was rendered in verse for intended performance or sim-ply to give it a flowing line. However, the set pieces are all there and compare well with other versions. Four stars sums it up, five stars reserved for Watling(Penguin, mine cost 3/6).

I expected this to be hard going, I was wrong. It was a really fascinating read once the form is adjusted to. You can thill to the harsh and cruel world of the writer. This is great drama.
