Q: Is the tumbler (ignoring the lid) top shelf dishwasher safe, or hand wash only?

It is recommended to be dishwasher and hand wash. User can conduct a periodic hand wash with the included brush during the hand wash, this will not only clean the remaining residuels on the bottom of tumbler & inner of straw as well as pro-long the lifespan of the tumbler usage.

Q: I have tea stains sandwiched between the slider mechanism and lid. Anyone have tips on how to clean there?

I soaked it in hot soapy water and then rinsed it for a while until it was clean. I also made sure the soapy water got into the he slider by sliding back and forth until the water went in.

Q: Is it microwave compatible?

Since it is stainless steel, the answer is NO!! it is NOT able to be put in a microwave. for not thing the stainless steel will block the microwaves from ever reaching the liquid inside. Also it can damage the microwave. This goes for ALL staleness steel no matter in what form.
