Very Good Girls

I was surprised when I first watched this film by how touching the characters were. The characters remind me a lot of myself when I was a teenager and coming into my own as a sexual being. Yes, the characters come from privileged backgrounds, which is hard for me to connect with. But with that aside, I felt the actors did a good job in expressing emotion. I felt the relationship between the girls was sweet and realistic. The families were relatable in their dynamics. I think as far as contemporary films go, this one is worth watching. There aren't many films from this time that I connect with. But I connect with this one.

The story is good and the relationship between the two girls is well done and believable. But they're so obnoxiously rich and privileged that it's hard to feel empathy for them. I don't know if it was the actor or the script, but I thought the male character was pretty much a jerk and not deserving the attention he got from the girls. Elizabeth Olsen is not a bad actress but it's hard to appreciate her because that horrible nose job is so distracting.

In reading the description, it's easy to dismiss this movie as another teen drama, but seeing the lead actresses I thought I'd give them a shot since they have done well in previous films they've been in. I'm glad I did. The direction of this film is mature but true to the complexities and decisions of girls of that age. I can understand how viewers who were never in that position may dismiss it and score it lower, but for anyone that's gone through similar things (meaning the complexities of friendship, first love, and instability in those years) can vouch that the characters did justice to the theme and that the director did well in using different devices to add depth and levels to it. Fanning didn't have a lot of dialogue but she didn't need to in order to portray a very realistic and multifaceted character.

YES I LIKED THE MOVIE MOSTLY BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE MISS DAKOTA FANNING SHE IS AWESOME LOOKING AND I WAS QUITE SUPRISED THAT THAT YOUNG GIRL STRIPPED NAKED ON THE BEACH WITH HER GIRLFRIEND THEN THEY BOTH RAN FAST INTO THE LAKE WATER AREA OF THE OCEAN BUT THE FACT DAKOTA WANTED TO DO THIS MOVIE SO THE WORLD COULD SEE YOU BUT NAKED SURPRISES ME AND SHOCKS ME AS WELL BUT I GUESS IT WAS JUST HER BACK END OF HER BODY SHE SHOWED OFF NAKED AND NOT HER MORE PRIVATE SEXUAL AREAS LIKE HER BREASTS AND HER PUSSY SO ITS NOT THAT SHOCKING I GUESS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF SHE SHOWED THE WORLD ALL HER NAKED BODY IF SHE HAD CHOSEN TO DO THAT I BET HER FAMILY WOULD BE VERY UPSET AND THAT SURELY WOULD BE SHOCKING TO NOT ONLY HER FAMILY BUT TO ALL WORLD AS WELL

When I saw the cast for this movie, I was intrigued. I wondered why I had not heard of it before now. I watched it until the credits rolled, but I wanted to stop several times, because there were so many missed opportunities in this movie with such a great cast. Also, a note of advice to young girls who watch this, be forewarned: If a guy you meet, in passing, seems more attracted to you than your very best friend, who is crushing on him, and he basically begins stalking you like prey (disguised as romantic and sweet), please avoid him. He is not worth the loss of that close friendship. While the actor, Boyd Holbrook, is really incredible, the character he plays is a jerk and is very creepy in so many different ways. Being a virgin is not the worst thing in the world for a teenager, but losing it to a guy your best friend likes, could be.

This one was interesting. A bit slow but I love anything with Elizabeth Olsen in it. It is a good coming of age story
