Q: What is the "deluxe d" made of and how is it different from the "little black" more expensive version? thanks.

The whistle is made of tubing of the same diameter for its length, with a plastic mouthpiece, so its an updated version of the original penny whistle made out of tin with a seam for the entire length and they are tapered along their length with a piece of wood used in the metal mouth piece. They all sound a little different and there is great debate amongst players. Most people own several different versions, as they are inexpensive to own, and fun to play and collect. Hope this helps.
