I used this book during my recent weekend trip to upstate NY. We used this book as a sole reference and found some world class wineries. It proved to be a perfect road trip companion. This book focuses on the small (mostly family owned) wineries that were difficult to find/discover (at least for me). The stories (behind each winery) provided helpful context before we walked into the winery.Besides the basics, I loved the "Byways & Distractions" section. I also loved the way photos were used to tell the story of the region and the specific winery.I am planning to gift this book as a summer gift to few friends.

This book contains gorgeous photographs. It has useful descriptions, and acts as a good reminder that tasting wine is supposed to be fun! It is really calming, like talking with a knowledgeable--but not snobby--friend about how to create a wine-tasting tour. Mr. Gera makes this task seem very approachable. Here's the back story: my girlfriend loves wine. I think it's ok. But I really like her. So I'm planning a romantic get-away weekend where we go wine tasting. This book is indispensable in helping me do that.

What a wonderful, gorgeous and inspiring book.Excellent and educated writing, beautiful and luscious photos. A must for al of us that love wine, pretty backroads, authentic eateries and the feeling of discovering the true luxeries of life.
