Excellent Overview of the Hendrix legacy
This is one of the better books in the On Track series. Although born many years after Hendrix's brief but influential career, Emma Stott displays an insight and understanding of the master guitarist's work that is more penetrating than many of the contemporaneous commentators back then - it's a time I well remember myself, as I was a teenager back in the 1960s/1970s and revelled in the music of this 'golden age'. The essential trilogy of the Experience's dynamic debut 'Are You Experienced'; eclectic follow-up 'Axis: Bold As Love' (both released in 1967!) and Hendrix's 1968 masterwork 'Electric Ladyland' are all analysed in forensic detail, with great attention paid to historical research. The sometimes underrated material that made up the posthumous release 'The Cry Of Love' (later expanded on the re-released 'First Rays Of The New Rising Sun') is well covered here and fairly appraised. The book is extremely well-written and researched, highly informative and inspiring and made me want go back and re-listen to these essential classic rock albums again. A highly recommended purchase!
