Dont have a rubber mallet?
We used folded up cardboard and. Regular hammer, paint got scuffed minimally in assembly, no bent pieces. Definitely assemble with another person, directions weren't incredibly helpful but the learning curve is short. Sturdier than I anticipated. I was disappointed unpacking the box, pretty happy with it assembled. I will likely replace the shelves with something longer lasting. I'm using it for pantry shelving so any sort of moisture is gonna ruin the shelves
