Never judge a book by its cover; but get this one to discover what’s inside!
I suppose we all thought we knew Miss. Beadle, the sweet, innocent school teacher who kept Laura Ingalls on the right track and from too many fights with nemesis, Nelly Olson. We thought we knew her...The cover of her life’s book is far from the cover we all saw on our TV screens...In reality, Miss Beadle was a fictional character, created from the mind of Michael Landon, and played by the very 3 dimensional and fascinating, Charlotte Stewart. The cover is lovely, but the book - life story - underneath is wonderfully fascinating.I had heard the phrase, "Sex, Drugs, and Rock-and-Roll," while growing up in the 70s. Even saw bits and pieces on TV in between watching Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons, like all kids of my GenX age. Little did I know that when not breaking up fights between Laura and Nelly, Miss Beadle - the real Charlotte - was living a very different life than she did on the Prairie! One defined by the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll of the era. She was a walking, talking, living being whose life was very much the thing of TV lore, real, gritty, and enthralling. It is apparently the sweetness and charm of Miss Beadle was very much real, as Ms. Stewart’s story is heartwarmingly told, including her early life with her rural, farm family, or the friendships she enjoyed over a lifetime. No one can have that many friends or so many warm memories unless they were and are a truly charming and nice person. There are many moment’s Ms. Stewart’s stories are not just heartwarming, but make you wish you were in the room with her, enjoying her rich life. Maybe even sharing a joint while listening to one of her household-name-friend’s playing a new recording. But wow... this lady’s life is not what one would have imagined!Told through memories and stories, including her early days in Hollywood, her years at school, and her many jobs as an actress, Ms. Stewart has a first hand experience of life in Hollywood during a transitional, vibrant, drug-fueled time. She knew some of the biggest names to grace our TV and film screens, not just as co-stars and colleagues, but as friends, drinking partners, and often, bed partners. So often autobiographies are either 1. watered down or 2. overblown.Ms. Stewart’s is a roller coaster of fun and funny, tragic and real, charming and sweet stories and memories she’s not afraid or embarrassed to share. She learned from a lifetime of lessons and she sheds light and life upon them in ways that inspire one to perhaps not feel alone if they’re going through their own issues (such as alcoholism) or feel encouraged to go after dreams with hard work and commitment (such as acting). We never truly know people around us, but if we take the time to listen to their stories and get to know them, we might come away with a new friend and fascinating stories... Reading her life’s story makes me wish I could meet this interesting woman, get to know her, and perhaps become one of a lifelong list of friends... but I’ll settle for this really great read.

Honest, Transparent & Engaging!
Charlotte truly has lived one of a kind, a very interesting life. Met so many amazing people along the way. A life filled with love & great memories & so many adventures. This book was a great read & I appreciate her honesty & transparency & her ability to communicate so fluidly about her many experiences! Was a book well worth reading! Not only was a great actress but a great human being who embraced life with all its highs & its lows & continually reached out to others, making the world a better place because of her kindness & generous spirit. Is one of a kind!

Excellent Book
I have to admit I mainly got this book because I had read that Charlotte Stewart had been married to Tim Considine of My Three Sons and I had a huge crush on him after watching reruns growing up. However, once I read this book I began to get a better understanding of Stewart who were through a lot. From an unwanted abortion to a life of drugs and alcohol which led to her hitting rock bottom. She does talk about her role on Little House on the Praire and Eraserhead as well as Twin Peaks. She also talks about her friendship with Jim Morrison of The Doors. An excellent book that I had trouble putting down.

You will love this!
I could not stop listening to this audio book. I listened in the car and would often delay my errands to keep listening. Charlotte's life is so interesting and she is a hoot, as a narrator. The only issue was it ended before the last few chapters were completed. I might have had a bad disc.

Fascinating look behind the curtain at Hollywood in the 60s and beyond
This was a really interesting novel from Charlotte Stewart not only about her life (as a human and as an actress) but also about her battle with alcoholism and her recovery.I really loved the easy way this read - there was not a lot of jumping around in time or flashbacks. It's all mostly chronologically told from her childhood through her current life.Of course most will pick this book up to read more about the behind the scenes stories from Little House On the Prairie as this is the first memoir from one of the adults points of views. It's definitely worth it for that but she doesn't dig TOO deep into it (for that, head over and pick up Alison Arngrim's book on that, so so so good). She does devote a little bit of time though and what's nice is you get to hear about the actors and actresses before and after the show as well and how it's been like with the resurgence of all of the fan events.Charlotte's life has been utterly fascinating and inspiring and I am so glad that I happened upon this memoir!

San Franciscan Nights
A great read; powerful life lessons shared. I am sorry Charlotte could barely remember her time living in San Francisco. I was acquainted with Charlotte. Her neighbors and dear friends were Julie and Larry along with their close friends Gene (me) and Sue. She even invited the four of us to the world premiere of Human Highway at the Mill Valley Film Festival and the mind blow celebrity jammed after party. I believe her boyfriend at the time was the very cool and talented actor Darrell Larson who I only met once. Evidently, Charlotte had her problems living in San Francisco, but I recall she was always a highly composed and class act.

Very bravely written book
It's not the best book written but it's a life in her words. Nothing is ever as it seems, and it's true.

Just wow.
Not what you would expect from innocent Ms. Beadle. A very honest biography. Her book could have easily been longer, and still hard to put down. A flower child and party animal with so many tales to tell. Absolutely loved her book.

Great Biography!
I wasn't so sure that I was going to enjoy this biography, but I loved it. Being a Little House fan I knew I would enjoy those parts, but I wasn't so sure about the rest. I was wrong. The whole book was great! I loved Charlotte Stewart's honesty - and how she makes no excuses for anything she has done or for who she is. Well worth the read!
