Q: Can the whistle part be pointing downward or diagonal or does it have to be straight out?

When you attached the whistle to your car just make sure the point (or tip) faces the car and the rounded surface faces the road you would be traveling on.

Q: Does the big opening go in the front?

Yes. I put mine on differently as I wasn't sure at first. Mine seem to work, but the opening does face out.

Q: My deer whistles got here today there are two that you make whistle and 2 that can not is that normal ?? I blow into the big opening

You should not be blowing into them. You need to be going 35 miles an hour or more for them to work.

Q: Will these stay on during alaskan winters?

I put mine on with super glue. But not really sure I live in Texas.
