Just laugh away Coronovirus - see Splash 20th Edition DVD!!
Firstly, Amazon got this DVD to me super fast (regular mail!) and it was perfect to get this the same week that Coronovirus rates were rapidly escalating in my area. This DVD is way funnier than I remembered :-) and we wereall completely distracted from this Coronovirus bully by watching this comedy. Much better than I remember, loved watching this. The quality of the 20th Edition release is also very clear, well done and looks like a brand new release (which it is!!). Prepare to laugh and real loud and deep belly laughter as well (very therapeutic). This is terrific. Enjoy...

Classic comedy with Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, John Candy, & Eugene Levy
Allen:”I've been waiting for someone and when I find her, she's... she's a fish. Freddie:”Nobody said love's perfect.” The quotes in this film are priceless.Allen Bauer (Hanks) works as a produce/vegetable seller whose life is transformed by an unexpected romance. As a child he is rescued from drowning off Cape Cod by a young mermaid. Years later, he returns to the same location, and once again manages to fall into the sea, and is rescued once more by the mermaid. The movie is about a mermaid in Manhattan - (Hannah) who comes to find the boy. The man & mermaid's happiness are jeopardized by insane scientist/mermaid hunter (Levy). The scientist is determined on exposing Madison as a fish-woman lends the story with screwball comedy. Gotta love John Candy who plays Allen's brother Freddie. Well written and a literal fish out of water story that wins you over.

Good movie. Spectacular Blu-ray remastering!
My review is for the Blu-ray format of Splash.Movie:The movie is charming! When I first saw it on an online movie service, I said to myself that I needed this on my collection! It's funny, romantic, sometimes a little sexy (mild) - not really for small kids. There's a lot of kissing - funny because the mermaid always wanna kiss Allen (the man). But still it's a magical movie. It's movie about mermaid who fell in love with a man. A modern day Little Mermaid Story. The actors gave superb performance.Blu-ray:The blu-ray quality is not what I expected it to be - it exceeded my expectations! It was really spectacular! The picture quality is really clear and sharp. The close ups on the lead characters' faces are unbelievably clear for an 1980's film. It sometimes looks like it was shot on 2016. Though the age of the movie is obvious due to the camera that was used. The colors are nice too. Nice sound. Nice extras (though I haven't watch it in full yet). Great restoration and remastering!Packaging:Just on a normal Blu-ray case that was a bit thicker than the standard.Region:It's region free. It's working on my Region A Blu-ray player.Delivery:I experience no problem with Amazon's delivery service. Fast, reliable, and on time.

It's a great film with a lot of heart, but it is a product of its time.
Great movie, I appreciate it in its "unmeddled with" original form. Looking at you, Disney plus. The edits they made on the streaming site are unforgivable and unnecessary. It has never been released beyond DVD so this may be the only/best physical release... I would love a 4K or even bluray but th7s was a great as alternate it ve if those don't happen or worse are made from the censored cut. Glad I fit it while I could. The movie doesnt need a review it's a great film, even if its values are sometimes a little cringey in today's generation. Try to look past the influence of the times and appreciate it for being a product of it's time and move on. Plus how often do you see Tom Hanks being a little bit of jerk? Get a copy while you can.

Charming movie, but fairly dated due to sexism
I recall mildly enjoying this film as a young teen, and watched it recently with my kids (9 and 11). There is some mild sexual suggestion, but the more interesting issue was that "Splash" truly embodies the ultimate male fantasy. Not the mermaid aspect (except perhaps for men with a fish fetish), but the beautiful, leggy blonde of few words who will initiate sex with Tom Hanks anywhere--like the elevator in his apartment building, or on top of his refrigerator (neither is actually shown, LOL). Darryl Hannah is indeed luminous as the mermaid with the unpronounceable name that breaks TVs, and the movie is worth revisiting just to bask in her warm glow...Also, John Candy is a talent to be missed, playing Tom Hanks' playboy older brother with a former penchant for looking up women's skirts. In sum, even the slightly offensive sexism and dated script (also: New York City in the early 1980s= grungy!) can be overlooked because of the 3 featured stars.

SPLISH SPLASH I FOUND A MERIMAID
This is a delightful story for kids of all ages. It is light and entertaining and suitable for all viewers with a PG rating. It should definitely be in your disc library. How often does a New Yorker find a merimaid straight out of the Hudson River? This is a story made by dreams and very entertaining. Because of nude presentations, be made aware of this so you can control kid's ages with content. Short of brief nudity, this is a wonderful and entertaining movie.

A Classic!
I grew up watching this movie so it was fun to revisit all of my favorite moments: the opening sequence with the dropped coins, the confused but sweet receptionist, "Bocce Balls!", Dr. Cornbluth and the Moron Twins ("Oh, we're not twins."), the revelation of the real name of Daryl Hannah's character while in the department store electronics department, "I was shy.", infiltrating the scientific lab while pretending to be Swedish. The list goes on and on...It was also fun to catch the little details that I can see as an adult that I was blissfully unaware of as a child.

Somehow the love story in this film felt more genuine than a lot of other films even though she was a mermaid. I was always curious about seeing this film but did not get around to it until July of 2016 and i'm glad I did. it wasn't particularly funny except for about 3 moments or so and some of it was a little bit too silly for me still I believe it was worth seeing and the connection between the two characters played by Tom and Daryll were really worth seeing. I wonder how much this movie made the name Madison popular as well.

Classics Hanks
Splash is a 1984 American fantasy romantic comedy film directed by Ron Howard, written by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, and starring Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, John Candy and Eugene Levy. The film involves a young man who falls in love with a mysterious woman who is secretly a mermaid. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The film is notable for being the first film released by Touchstone Pictures, a film label created by Walt Disney Studios that same year in an effort to release films targeted at adult audiences, with mature content not appropriate for the studio's flagship Walt Disney Pictures banner. Splash had received a PG-rating for some profanity and brief nudity. One of many of Tom Hanks classic films and one to keep also stars the delightful Daryl Hannah.

Great nostalgia and a decent quality transfer to dvd
I don't want to go over the top in reiterating what a great piece of cinema this is from a writing, casting and direction point of view. Many other reviewers have summed up what makes this film special, the sweet romance, the gentle humour and great writing and direction.Disney's first foray into grownup films (bare bums and snogging) is still enjoyable despite it taking its time to get to grown up Madison. What I do want to point out is that despite it being a film older than myself and a bog standard DVD edition it is really quite a good transfer and quality copy, admittedly it's not frame by frame restored bluray HD resolution, but it's not fizzing and fuzzing like some other cheap transfers which can evoke migraines. This is worth the purchase alone as so many treasured films of mine have been rendered barely watchable through a bodged transfer from VHS to DVD by the studios rushing out DVD titles from their libraries. This DVD is well worth its outstandingly cheap price (at the time of purchase), as it couples a really good DVD quality image with a fantastic film that stands the test of time even with its 80s technology and fashion!

Great one film dvd.
Great product but be warned that it’s only splash one film. It’s a bit deceiving that it says on the case splash one two and three. Makes you think there are three films on one dvd. Otherwise a great film. I love mermaids so this film is fantastic. Came fast and well protected. Bit disappointed that there’s only one film on it. Recommended though.

Making a splash
The edition of this film bought was produced for the USA market and the region code did not allow play in my own (recent) DVD player but ran fine in my more flexible PC. The performances of Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah were just about right but I found John Candy as brother to the Tom Hanks character larger than life in more ways than one and slightly unbalances the whole, but then this is a comic fantasy that set its own standards.

Stunning transfer and a really funny and classic movie
Such a fantastic movie, and a favorite from my childhood. Everyone in this movie is amazing and there are so many funny moments... John Candy is especially hilarious. And it goes without saying that Daryl Hannah is stunning (I was always fascinated by those hips of hers, too) and it's pretty awesome to see so much of her, if you get my drift. Speaking of which, Blu-ray brings out A LOT OF DETAIL that even the dvd didn't reveal... and that's quite thrilling. Actually I'm kind of amazed this is PG and the nudity isn't even mentioned (but maybe that's a good thing in an otherwise stiflingly puritan Hollywood where it's ok to show gratuitous violence but one nipple and people freak). The other thing that's awesome in this movie is all the scenery, both the shots of NYC and also all the underwater stuff (really gorgeous sea life and lots of Hannah swimming through). Again, Blu-ray gets us that close () to the original film quality and it's beautiful.Alas, the only negative I noticed on my Blu-ray player is that the A-B loop function is disabled, and so is the zoom function. But lots of Blu-rays seem to do that these days, the zoom is somehow mapped to the scene selection function which is a bit frustrating.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
