for large self injection pens, type 2 diabetes (Bydureon,Trulicity), travel friendly, small child issues
I was on Victoza but it made me very sick, so my doctor sent me to a very nice endocrinologist. I needed to lower my glucose even lower than HbA1c 6.0 because I was having problems inside my eyes. (Rest assured that only 5% of type 2 diabetes have this problem at 6.0. My problems were a combination of very rare diabetic genetics, and partly non-diabetic, but diabetes made it worse.) First he put me on Bydureon. These injection pens are very large, like something you would expect in a large animal veterinary practice. So my old sharps container was too small for the pens to fit through the top. I did not want one as large as the ones in doctor offices or hospitals. I wanted one that would fit in a suitcase because my husband likes us to travel together when he has time off. So I found this size and type of container on Amazon. My medical plan changed me from Bydureon to Trulicity. These pens are marginally smaller (I can fit more in the container) but I still need the large opening and a tall container. They container travels well and I have never had it accidentally open. It is easy to open. It is also easy to accidentally lock closed. At home I keep it up high, out of reach of young visitors to my home because they might accidentally open the container and hurt themselves on the used pens which have large needles. I have never accidentally opened the container but my son was once young and I remember how clever and curious he was when as young as 1 year old. He would have been able to easily open this container or lock it even at 6 months, so up high it is stored because my nieces and nephews are having sons.

Very convenient sharps box
Exactly what I needed and an excellent product. As an EMT, I have to be able to take all the gear I need to the patient's side in just a few bags. There is a wall mounted sharps box in the ambulance which is where we PREFER to do any sticks that we need to do. However, anyone in the medical field knows that you don't always get what you prefer and often I have to start a line or get a D-stick outside of the truck with no sharps container to dispose of the needles. Sure, I've never gotten a needlestick injury because of the lack of a sharps box but there is more risk without one. This sharps box is very portable and easy to use. I love the fact that you can hold and open it with the same hand so the needle never leaves your hand until its in the box. Its small enough to go in my jump kit without taking up too much room; but big enough to hold several syringes, needles, finger lancets, etc. Also, I like how the lid can lock down when it is full and you have to dispose of it. This is a great item for anyone who needs portable medical gear.

I don’t think I’m a fan
I was specifically looking for a smaller sized sharps container that I could pack and travel with and with the intention of dropping it off at a hospital for disposal before I fly back. I am looking at this side by side against the OakRidge 1 quart contain and I swear they are nearly the same in air volume. The fill volume of this thing might be 1/2 quart, but this thing the same width, a little less deep, and way taller than the OakRidge. Why does there need to be so much air in this Kendall container? More importantly, the top doesn’t come off so you can’t pack it well when it’s empty. The OakRidge came with th cap off so I can at least pack tightly when going out and get rid of the container at a hospital before I return. On the other hand, you can’t close the slider of the OakRidge all the way shut which is equally retarded. My final conclusion: for personal use, I’m just going to use empty Snapple and Benefiber bottles. My hospital seems perfectly happy to take them from me that way. For travel where I am dealing with a medical facility that doesn’t know me, I think I will first try the OakRidge and stuff this Kendall container in the car.

Nice size for trip, but the wide mouth worried me.
Nice size to pack for a week long trip. More then able to handle the half dozen test strips, lancets, and pen nibs I generate a day.Dinged to 4 stars due to the wide mouth left me in fear that if I knocked it over, all the old sharps and test strips would come tumbling out. Fortunately the big lid does snap down with solid sound and requires more then a token amount of pressure to open.Update:We just returned from 3+ week vacation. Testing & taking insulin up to 6 times a day. Strips, lancets, pen needles and syringes. Even a couple of empty pens. Room to spare when I got home.To address my ding if 1 star: The entry hole is NOT one way. So make sure you put the lid down EVERY time. With the lid down it took several tumbles without opening up. So if I could I'd make it 4.5 stars.

Sturdy and well designed
You could run over this with a big truck and I'm sure it wouldn't break. It also features locks to be used when it is filled up and needs disposal. But if you want to open it and dump out the sharps be aware that container is already locked together and would be very difficult to open. The opening for the needles/sharps opens and closes but if you push down too hard on the latch it will snap in and also be very difficult open. The rectangular shape and one quart capacity make it easy place in an out-of-the-way area like a corner of the bathroom vanity. I was thinking that this was a travel-size container (my fault - didn't read the item description well enough) but it would take up a lot of room in a travel bag.

Right size, heavy duty.
Just the right size. I use this for my glucometer lancets.

Perfect
This is a well made slimline sharps container. It's thick and won't open when I have it in the bag. I'm a midwife and appreciate a little container

Needed a multi-use container for personal use. This fits the bill.
Although I wouldn't be comfortable carrying it around unlocked in a professional setting (caring for other people) mine stays in a dedicated drawer in the bathroom keeping accumulated needles from spilling and presenting a hazard. The lid will close firmly enough for this kind of use without locking permanently. Locks for final disposal. If travelling with it, I'd put a couple rubber bands across the top and make sure it's in its own close-fitting bag. The lid isn't super-secure and I'd hate to be fishing needles out of my laundry. (Yikes!)
