You can definitely fill the bottom with bottle caps. The sides are thick and deep.

No!! Don’t put it in the oven. It’s not heat safe.

Q: how thick is the base of the finished tray? I'm looking to put stones in the bottom and want to make sure they will be fully covered in resin. Thanks

The tray is 3/4 inch deep when cured. Can't visualize what you are wanting to do. I may have a better answer if I did.
