Thayers Slippery Elm Lozenges, Cherry, 150 Count

I consider my diet to be pretty good, but I was born with liver problems that caused indigestion and GERD for certain foods. Before I tried Slippery Elm, a drip of pasta sauce could leave me with severe heartburn lasting 2 to 3 days. Overtime I eliminated all of my favorite foods from my diet to find my "trigger foods": Grapefruit, pasta, meat, cheese, tomatoes, garlic, etc. That helped, but I'd still occasionally get heartburn or painful cramps and I couldn't figure out why. I was beginning to lose hope, it felt like everything was a 'trigger food' for me. At one point I was eating nothing but rice and bread and drinking a lot of water because I was terrified of something upsetting my stomach.That's around the time I finally tried Slippery Elm. It was an act of desperation, I'll admit, I've never had luck with "natural herbal remedies"... we have modern medicine for a reason. I figured it was a total hoax and I'd just be wasting my money. Wow was I wrong. DAY ONE of using this stuff, it worked marvelously. I could eat like normal again, just take a couple pills after my meal and I'd have no digestion issues. After a whole month of no heartburn or problems, I decided to go crazy. I ate an entire pot of artichoke spaghetti and meatballs, no heartburn. I ate a large greasy pizza, no heartburn. I could not believe how well this stuff worked. Kinda feels like a super power, eat anything with zero consequences... but for now I'll try not to abuse my power, and stick to lots of fruits and veggies so I don't add heart disease to my list of problems.

I will forever be keeping these in my medicine cabinet! I had laryngitis and bronchitis causing an extremely bad dry cough. I was having coughing attacks so bad that it would cause me to almost vomit from coughing so hard. I had to leave meetings numerous times throughout the day for days on end, because I would cough so severely. After going through bag after bag of every type of expensive lozenge sold at CVS (including a package of 10 that cost $10!...I was desperate). I heard about these and paid for 1 day shipping to have them asap. These are the ONLY thing that helped me control my cough and rest my throat so that I could get my voice back. I will forever be keeping these in my medicine cabinet! I wish I could give them 6 stars. It was also nice to avoid all of the sugar in typical cough drops, because I was going through 5 or more an hour to prevent severe coughing fits during meetings.These have a dry almost chalk like texture, but they are not bothersome at all. It is not actually like eating chalk, they just aren't like a traditional lozenge. I actually really prefer these now! The flavor is subtle and not overly intense like other brands have been. So thankful I found these and that they do the job, without all of the unnecessary junk added to other cough drops or lozenges.

I don't have a problem with the taste. In fact, I could probably have one in my mouth all day. The problem is that they're really just not all that effective, at least not for what I was expecting. I was hoping that the lozenges would either a) cause me to salivate and thus keep my mouth and throat moist, or b) coat my throat to make it less painful to talk with a soar (over-used) voice. They don't have either effect for me. On the positive side, their mere presence in my mouth make me more conscious of exercising my throat in a more gentle way, so there's a little bit of value-add despite not meeting initial expectations. In case you are wondering, what did work for me was 'Throat Coat' by Traditional Medicinals which I found at my local grocery co-op (and have since found at other granola-type grocers, e.g. Whole Foods). It has the same ingredient (slippery elm) as these lozenges, but the tea + licorice seemed to be more effective for the coating sensation I was going for. BUT, one can't drink tea all day if one hopes to not spend the whole day peeing, so perhaps the lozenges are a good supplement to the aforementioned tea-like substance.

I have LPR and the constant phlegm in the throat feeling and the lump in the throat feeling are constant. I refuse to go on medication and end up with cancer or worse digestive issues. So I have tried everything, read the books, did the diets and nothing. So here I am. I can tell you that these lozenges have taken away the feeling by at least 80%. I have only been taking it for 2 days and already I see a HUGE improvement. I actually ordered more so I can have them in my car, purse,etc. I have been chewing two after each meal, 2 before I go to bed and I keep 2 on my nightstand in case I wake up to use the bathroom. I will just take one then. I can tell you that this is the BEST THING that I have tried and I will keep using them until this LPR goes away.

These lozenges work very well with all natural ingredients and keep me from resorting to a prescription med. Although they claim the flavor is cherry, it tastes more like cardboard. Not bad, just not the cherry candy flavor I had in mind. The lozenges have a rough surface, the sensation isn't "slippery" like a cough drop, in spite of being made of slippery elm. Neither the flavor or the texture is bad, just very different from what I imagined from the description. More like a small flavorless Necco wafer. But, hey, they make my throat feel good.

These have a pleasant taste. I suck one before I go to sleep at night and they have stopped my throat being so sore in the morning. If my throat feels irritated in the day I take them and they give me instant relief. I'm about to order my third pot.

I don't know why we can not buy these in the UK

These are excellent if you are singing, they stop any dehydration in your throat. Suck two before a gig and things are much easier. They taste good too!
