Great mooching reels
Great reels for trolling with fly rods. Drag is smooth and reel is well made.

Pretty nice reel for the price. I was first time using a mooching reel for salmon fishing, and I have to say i prefer it over level wind reel. I spooled it with powerpro for backing (had left over) and then put 300yrds 30lb maxima and a rod length of 25lb flourocarbon (probably not necessary). The reel holds a ton of line, drag is very smooth and the free spool helps with setting depth when downrigger fishing. Caught one salmon on it (5-7lb range) and was pretty fun to play it with this style of reel. We like it so much on the boat we are thinking of adding another.

These reels are primitive, but they are BEASTS. I’ve been using two daily on my downrigggers and they’re holding up very well. 5-15 fish in each reel being caught daily.
