LAMSON | Ketchum Release Hook Extractor | Big Bug | Larger Fly Patterns

I used this with barbless flies on a catch and release fishing trip. I was skeptical at first and used my trusty needle nose pliers but destroyed a couple flies with them. I finally tried these. After a couple fish I got to where I could nearly always remove the hook with a little wrist snap and not touch the fish. The tool works great and I believe helped protect the fish from being handled. They are ridiculously overpriced though.

To be honest, I'm a bit tired of reviews, but this product is superb. Do be aware that you'll need different sizes for different size flies. There's also a small learning curve on exactly the correct way to turn/lift/use the thing, but once you've mastered it, it's fabulous. I routinely am able to net the fish, remove the hook, keeping the fish in the water all the time, and not even get my hands wet. I fully endorse the Ketchum Release!

Works great. Unfortunately I had to buy again as the tip broke when placing float tube in truck. The end is thin plastic. These work great thougb........remember I just bought a second time.....

A useful fishing tool for my son's first time fly fishing and easy to release the hook of the trouts.

I have used the regular sized Ketchum Release for many years but it doesn't work on larger flies. I don't know why I waited to long to buy the larger model. I rarely carry a net anymore because these work so well to unhook and release fish without touching them. I'm so glad I finally bought this bigger size and would recommend it to anyone.

Had a hard time getting this to work - hard to get in position where it works. Handle is slick to hold on to while using. Learned the hard way that it doesn’t float - not planning on replacing it soon. Gave it 3 stars as it is a good concept but in need of improvement.

I've been wanting one of these for a long time, but couldn't justify the price. I use barbless hooks and generally get by. Winter fishing, though, is what finally brought me to break down and get this release tool. Dry hands are warm hands! The tool is easy to use and well made; unless I manage to lose it I expect it to last for a long, long, time. I love Lamson reels, and here's another excellent product from this great company.

Works well but as with all fly fishing products way overpriced for what it is. Usual corporate greed.

Looked everywhere for one of these as they work great for gently releasing fish. Happy to be able to gifts these to other avid fishers.
