These are great hiking boots
These are great hiking boots. They feel more like tennis shoes than hiking boots. Very comfortable. Great grip on the bottom. Very light. I use these hiking boots specifically for mountain biking. They are narrow, light and nimble enough to work perfect on pedals and during the times when I have to walk my bike.2/19/2017 update. I've used these hiking boots exclusively for mountain biking this winter. They have been covered in mud and submerged in water. I don't know what the criteria is for being waterproof, but these boots only allowed a little bit of water in the shoe upon submersion. I've even had to walk my bike for a few miles while wearing them due to a broken chain. They were comfortable shoes during the walk. In all they have held up very well.I will say that if I were buying these specifically for hiking they would need more arch support. The toe box is a bit wide as I have narrow feet. These shoes would not be my first choice if I were buying with hiking as a primary activity. However, with hiking as a secondary concern when I am riding on the trails, they are perfect.Nevados makes a black version of these boots that I just purchased. I intend to use the black version for summer mountain biking.I recommend these shoes for budget conscious hikers or mountain bikers who want a mid-quality hiking boot.

Great value for the price
These boots can't be beat for price/performance. I'm not a hardcore hiker, but I do need hiking boots a few times throughout the year. I wasn't going to spend a ton of money, but wanted something that would hold up. These boots fit the bill perfectly. Here are my thoughts:Fit: I wear a size 8.5 for most brands (9-9.5 in Nike) and the 8.5 fit perfectly for these. They have just enough room to be comfortable with hiking socks for a snug fit and no slipping around. I liked the way they felt around my feet right out of the box. Only the ankle support needed some break-in time. It was a little stiff, but after a few days, it felt just fine.Construction: The boots aren't too heavy, but are sturdy on the trails. They are made with real leather, which helps with the overall durability. One thing to note, however: There isn't a whole lot of padding around the ankle. If you like a thick cushion, these aren't the boots for you. I tried to get a picture of how they look from the top. That's what they looked like out of the box. It's not a problem for me as it's very similar to most work boots I've had over the years.Overall, they are solid boots for the price and I'd definitely buy them again. Had they been more expensive, I probably wouldn't rate them as high, but I don't think you'll find a better deal.

Great shoes!
Awesome shoes. I really love them. I am a normal US 9 1/2, Usually my toes barely touch the end of 9 1/2 shoes. Not these, i ordered 9 1/2's, and my toes have a couple centimeters to wiggle around with. So the shoes do run a bit bigger then regular US shoes.Reason why i rated 4 stars out of 5 is because my left shoe had some torn fabric under the left Insole on arrival. Nothing serious but still disappointing. Also some of the stitching seems poorly done. All in all. these shoes are amazing for the price. i cannot wait to go hiking with them. They feel amazing, and walking seems easy because they roll and bend with your foot.

Decent Boots - Price Is Right
More like three and a half stars, which is still not too bad.Fit very well and comfortable enough but not a great feeling boot in regard to support.I am hoping that they don't turn into a pair moccasins after a year of use. I've been wearingthese often looking in the fields for indian flints and hiked back into some rugged areas off ofa long stretch of railroad tracks and have given them a pretty good work out on gravel, rocks, dirt, railroad ties and some pavement. If I get a year or two of hard use out of these boots I willconsider them to have been a good purchase. No complaints really, but these are not the boots that you would choose to buy if youwere going on a real adventure into area where your feet and your footwear mightbe the difference between life and death. They work fine in farm fields and metro parkshike and bike trails. They look really great with jeans too if you just want a boot to makeyou look like an outdoorsy type.

STYLE AND COMFORT PLUS BIG-TIME VALUE
I'm fortunate to live in a mountain community with numerous alpine trails. As a matter of habit, I hike two or three miles every day. Am I picky about the boots I wear? Oh, yes! This new pair of Nevados Talus boots has met and surpassed my expectations. Candidly, I was initially attracted by the boots' striking looks--a mostly dark-brown design with orange piping and sole accents. The fit was excellent; comfort and support, first rate. They're exceptionally light, too, with the promise of major durability. Time and miles will tell, of course, as far as the latter quality is concerned. I have other boots whose purchase price was two or even three times as much as this pair. An amazing value, really!

Broke after 6 used, waste of money
I bought nevados based on some good feedback i had heard from my parents but clearly they have gone downhill since the folks last bought them. The laces snapped within a week, and after wearing them roughly 6 times the metal loop broke on the to right. Wore them 4 more times and the other loop broke. Complete waste of money. Should have gotten walmart or dollar tree brands as they're the same quality and i'd be out 20 instead of 40. Tried to contact them to see if they had a warranty and the contact us page on their website is blank.
