Expensive but well worth the price
Makes large square holes as advertised. When mortising very hard woods such as quarter sawn white oak it's best to drill pilot holes with a small bit to aid in the lumber removal. The bit will remove the material, however your mortising machine may break without the help.

Excellent
Of the several brands of mortising chisels I've had thru the years, these seem far above the others. For this 3/4" bit, you'll really need more than 1/2hp.

Perfect 3/4" mortises!
This an amazing addition to my Powermatic mortiser. In the past, I'd make 3/4" mortises with a 1/2" mortising bit and make 2 passes across the width. However, there was always a bit of misalignment across the width. With the 3/4" bit, the ability to make the mortise in one pass resulted in an absolutely perfect mortise. I was roughly 5 dozen 1.5" mortises in cedar and the bit went through it like the wood was butter! The real test will be using it to make mortises on a hard wood, but I do not expect any problems due to how sharp this thing is. the 4 tips on the chisel portion are RAZOR sharp and if you are not careful, you'll get a good gash on the tops of your fingers - I know this from experience! Despite the extra care needed to handle it, the razor sharp edges are exactly what you need to produce 1 perfect mortise after another.
