Not flat, worrying break-in period
Purchased for filing hardened steel, reshaping tools and knives. Initially it looked like all the coating was going to get scraped off but it seems to have settled down and was cutting well. It's warped, bowing back and forth a bit, but flat enough for my purposes. It's a bit too fine for regrinding on it's own, I'll probably only use it after a coarser file. I would like to invest in a higher quality version of this sort of thing in the future but for now this is fine. Would make a wonderful field sharpener for an axe or machete.

Good for the money.
I gave it 5 stars because what you get for the money, it's really good. Like any file like this, upon first use it will shed some of the abrasive. All files like this do that. After that ot works well for sharpening axes, hatchets and tomahawks. You can use it to "re-edge" heavily used cutting tools before putting in a final edge.

Amazing price vs. quality ratio
Wow, impressive. The grit is indeed coarse. It is indeed diamond coated for the majority of the shank. The price is absolutely unbeatable. I can't understand how they can make this and ship it to America for under $15. The metal itself is certainly low grade pot metal - looks like a high tin content. But its a diamond file so the hardness of the metal is relatively unimportant.Handle is fine, hard ABS or something like it. I havent put it through a stress test just yet but I have ised it for various small odd jobs and there is no indication of the coating coming off. I will be using it to float some saw teeth on an old spring steel Disston saw here soon and really put it to the test. If it fails I will update my review.

Any one who has given this a bad review probably doesn't know how to use hand tools
Any one who has given this a bad review probably doesn't know how to use hand tools . The handle doesn't stay on very well , other than that this is an awesome file . I used mine to carve marble to make chess pieces . That's right the same file that some here call crap I used to cut stone . Pictures included .

Lasts longer than I expected
Many of the imported diamond files wear out in a few minutes. This file lasted much longer. Overall a fair value.

100 not 180 grit and the handle won't stay on.
The plastic handle on the file I received has a hole too big for the tang of the file: it just falls off. The grit is more like 100, not 180: it's far coarser than expected from the description. Still. I will find the tool useful so three stars.

It worked great to provide a more even flow of water
I used the file to smooth and reshape the granite spillway which is part of my pool. It worked great to provide a more even flow of water. Well worth the price.

Start Your Heavy Duty Smooth Edge Blade Sharpeing With This!
I've only used it a few times. It is a great "first pass" file to really remove some metal. There aren't many diamond files where the diamond surface is over a few inches long.
