Hickory shaft split on first day of heavy use - avoid
Nice heavy axe, split logs quite efficiently for the first hour of heavy use. Then - the hickory shaft split clean into two pieces. Closer inspection after the event reveals a large knot in the handle, implying poor quality control in manufacturing or design. I am not impressed with this "US quality" product - marketing hype covering a sub-standard hickory handle.

Suspect shaft
This has split well but little used up until I invested in a grenade as this was recommended for making light of some larger logs from recently felled trees. Literally half a dozen good wacks in and the shaft broke right at the top of the neck! Not impressed having been happy with the work this maul had done so far. Would replace because overall the quality seems high but suspect this will be difficult.

Surprisingly easy to use and performs well
I'd no experience with using a Maul before and had mixed results with small axes. We had a heap of logs that needed to be split and stacked so I had no time to waste. The Maul arrived quickly and was well packaged. I decided to watch some YouTube videos on the best technique. Essentially don't swing it over your shoulders but keep it out in front of you with the maul raised up just above eye level. Then let it drop, sliding your left hand down towards your right hand as it goes (Obviously visa versa if you are left handed). The maul under its own weight should split the log. If it doesn't then often a second go will do it. I had one where the maul embedded into the log so I let the maul drop again onto the block with the log still attached and it split when the log made contact with the block.I'm out of shape so doing this for 20 minutes was good exercise. After a day in the office it is also quite therapeutic. You can do as little or as much as you like and the maul makes a lot of firewood in double quick time. Unlike electrical or hydraulic log splitters this won't let you down if the power goes down in a storm, just the time you may need some logs!

Axe
I bought this item thinking it would be fit for purpose and it is completely useless; it simply bounces off any logs you try and split with it! What a wast of money!

Poor quality and is anything but 'Faithful'
I have bought this product having done lots or research regarding the maul that i wanted to purchase and ended up with this one..I was mistaken to buy this product. It is useless and does not do what it says on the tin. It fails to even pentrate the surface of the log nevermind split it. I don't know if I just got a bad one that wasnt sharp, but the one I received is rubbish and I have returned it for a full refund. Gonna pay the little extra and get myself a 'Fiskars' one..should have listened to my grandad.. "Ya get what ya pay for son.."

Disappointed
I bought this for my son in October 2011. He did not use it until October of this year when I was visiting him. We started chopping logs and after 40 minutes of chopping the handle snapped!

Split n burn
I can only reiterate what the majority of reviewers have said. I've split quite a lot of wood with this maul now and I've had no issues with it. It is still as sturdy as the day it was delivered (some time last year). Sharpens nicely with a metal file if you don't have a sharpening wheel, not that it needs sharpening much since its effectiveness is in its weight. If you're in the market for a maul, from my own experience, I can't fault this product.

Rubbish
Axe was used three times then split along the shaft after just 1 year and 2 weeks. George and Freddie offer 30 day guarantee (for an axe??) and do not understand distance selling regulations nor do they understand the extended warranty that applies to items with a cutting edge. They were extremely unhelpful, told me to contact the manufacturer but then couldn't tell me who that was. I found the supplier myself, they were brilliant and I now have a new axe. Now I look at the picture again, my axe didn't have the collar at the base of the shaft. I would buy another Faithful product but will never buy from George and Freddie again

No parte madera dura.
