Great price, quality so-so
These are off-brand wooden railway tracks designed to work with the Brio and Thomas and Friends systems. For the most part, they fit well with the tracks we already have. The best part of this set is just the sheer number and variety of track pieces -- great for creating larger and more complex set-ups. Older kids, maybe 5-6 years, will have a lot of fun imagining new layouts. This product does have a few minor downsides, as follows:1. The roundhouse is cheaply made and difficult for little hands to operate -- expect your 2-3 year old to need adult help turning it. Also, one of the connection knobs on ours had been inserted too far into the main piece, making it impossible to attach tracks to that side.2. The traffic gate is a great idea, but the gates themselves are quite fragile. Other reviewers have noted that their children broke the gates quickly. Ours actually ARRIVED with both gates broken. They are made of very thin wood (maybe 1/16" thick) -- not at all suitable for this type of product. Be prepared for the gates to snap in two during the first week of play.3. This set, in my opinion, comes with a few more forked pieces than are useful. Also, the shorter curved pieces (which create a tighter curve than the standard-size curved pieces) are so curvy that if you attach two of them together, the resulting bend is tight enough to cause the train to derail, particularly if you have the longer-size train cars. So, overall, this is a great product for the price. It's not perfect, but it is a good value, and I would buy it again.

A good value and opportunity for a lot of creative fun.
For the money, this is a wonderful track set. Most of the comments made by previous viewers are on the mark, so I won't repeat. I will say however, that there is a real nice assortment of pieces which allows for a vast number of configurations. The pieces fit together well, though not perfectly, and for the most part stay together sufficiently for the grandkids (2-4) to enjoy and not become frustrated. Some previous reviewers commented that the crossing gate component was flimsy, and broke within a few minutes of use. We can top that. For the first set we ordered, one of the crossing gates was broken before even emerging from the box, but I glued it back together then reinforced both gates by gluing a popsicle stick to the back of each. The other notable deficiency is with the trestle pieces. Our 4-yr old grandson did become frustrated with these to the point of not using them at all in the set-up. The problem is that for each of the two trestles, there is a pair of mating pieces (one going up, and one going down) that interlock like all the other track sections and are supported by a pair of blocks. For this system to work, the blocks must be precisely positioned, and any jarring will cause the blocks and mating tracks to come apart and/or topple. Also, the height of the trestle does not provide sufficient clearance for a train and track underneath it. I made two improvements to the trestles that make them much more user-friendly: 1) I substituted three carpentry shims glued together for each supporting block: and 2) I made clips from Romex stables (see photo) to secure the mating sections of trestle track together. Our grandkids are now much happier with the arrangement. Overall, we were sufficiently pleased with the first set to order a second one.

Awesome value for a mix of practical and specialty track pieces
Read the product details for a list of all the great pieces included in this set! If you've sprung for one or more Thomas sets, you know how expensive this stuff is when you buy brand name. It is not uncommon to pay ten dollars for two male-male or female-female adapter pieces, and there are four adapters in here. We started our wooden Thomas collecting with The Man in the Hills set (purchased from woot) as Mayhem's very first wooden railway set, and we've built on with the Figure Eight Expansion Set and some other odds and ends. This set blew our track configuration possibilities wide open. It's amazing what we have been able to build with Mayhem and what he builds on his own, with all of the great pieces in here. In fact, I would even suggest this as a base set for a wooden railway beginner, especially if you've bought a few trains but no track. You could start with this and get a lot of mileage out of it before adding on a fancy suspension bridge or brand name play set. The track pieces aren't stamped with the wooden ties and track design like the Learning Curve track pieces, but they work just as well and Mayhem doesn't mind. The fit of some of the pieces is just a bit looser than the Learning Curve track pieces, but this actually helped Mayhem assemble the track alone in the beginning, and they do stay together as well as "official" track. I recommend this set for anyone looking to expand or start their track collection at a significant savings over brand name track sets. We are ordering a second box of this set when we get Mayhem's playroom completed and he has more space to spread out.
