Q: Does this version have the titanium back?

Yes it does. Titanium back will be etched on the back. I purchased this watch a month ago, & it’s become my favorite. I saw some ppl claiming The buckle is also titanium but I cannot confirm.

Q: Is it possible to switch the date from month-day to day-month? robertblack indicated he managed to do this (and the pictures actually proves this)

Yes. You can switch mm/did to dd/mm. The “U” stands for updated version of the GWS5600. The small box also show the time when you switch to different modes whereas the older version of this watch didn’t do that. The backlight is brighter blueish compared to the older version had the dimmer greenish backlight. Overall, great watch JDM model only, lightest square you can buy and comes in the JDM box compared to the typical metal tin. Hope this helps!

It does have world time yes. As far as switching automatically not sure but if you put in a windowsill and let the watch sync overnight with the atomic clock I would think you would be good, assuming good reception and the watch syncs to atomic clock as it is multi ban 6( atomic syncing) depending on location and reception for syncing
