Westinghouse 12500 Peak Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator, Remote Electric Start, Transfer Switch Ready, Gas and Propane Powered, CO Sensor

I purchased this generator to use as a backup power source for my home. It is very easy to set up and it started immediately once I had added oil and gas. Plenty of power to operate all the essentials (lights, kitchen, water heater and gas furnace included). I have had another one at a different residence for two years and I'm super happy with both of them. I have run them on propane a few times, but I usually use gasoline. They work well on either fuel. A quality product at a fair price.

WGen9500DFc comes with oil, key start, battery and everything needed to get up and running other than fuel and specialty connector cables. It is heavy and isn’t super easy to move but it has a built in handle and wheels to make relocation easier. The ability to use propane and gas makes keeping it fueled easy. A propane tank last approximately 9 hours and gas runs about 12. Used during power outages to run everything in 2,000sqft home including AC and fridge. Also purchased cable to connect to home but outlets on unit provide more than enough power to run anything. Unit also includes auto on plug to connect to your home for sensing outage. I am not able to use it based on my connector but that is a huge bonus. The remote key fob can start and stop the generator without having to go outside making it perfect for part for storm prep. It is noisier than a Honda but is solid and seems like it is built to last. I ordered it on lightening deal so it was priced well below anything comparable but is well worth its standard price based on everything included and output capabilities.

Generator arrived as described. Amazon put it in the garage for us, out of the rain. Looks great. Quality looks good, better than the comparatively priced units that I reviewed. Assembly was easy. Moving is easy, with the handle on the light end. I connected ours to our propane piping from inside the house. Fortunately, the manual even gives the required gas pressure. We have a large tank for backup heat, and it was already regulated to the correct pressure at the tank, so I was able to remove the factory included regulator and run right off of our system. I had prior knowledge with gas regulation, so this step was easy. It would be nice if the hose had a removable regulator, but I made do. Generator starter right up and ran great. I have ran it right at max load with no issues. As other reviews have reported, it would be nice if it ran a little quieter, but you have to spend a lot more money to get a quieter one, but this one is certainly worth the price. The main breaker is rated at 38.5amps, so that will be your load limit, even if using the50amp connection, which we are. We’re ready for the next winter storm.

Top Notch Westinghouse WGen9500DFc Generator purchased on 3/13/25 arrived on time with excellent packing cardboard. It's possible to unbox and assemble wheels and footings by one person, but sure helps to have a 2nd person since this generator is solid and heavy. After a successful assembly using the excellent user manual instructions, we put oil supplied with this generator into the engine with a handy supplied funnel provided. Once we hooked up our propane, and hit the start button, it started up immediately and we let it run for 2 hours the first day and 3 more hours the 2nd day to break in the engine. It was great! The propane tank was still pretty fuel after running for these 5 hours. I highly recommend this awesome generator for your home and purchasing from Amazon. Amazon is my go to for buying products because they stand by their customers. Very happy with all!!

Great product. This one replaces my previous generator that I took to my mom’s after the hurricane last fall. The Westinghouse has more features and more power. Love love the built in charger for the battery! Heavy, of course, but assembly was simple.

Ease of use is the most impressive feature of this overall excellent generator. It's battery operated start with remote control is a game changer. No more back breaking manual cranks!

This is a very nice piece of machinery. Installing the wheels and feet took less than 5 minutes. The piece of foam padding in the box makes a nice kneeling pad while you're adding the oil (included). They include a spark plug wrench and an open end wrench in a tool bag. The oil capacity is 1.16 quarts. Oil comes in quarts so keep in mind that .16 quarts is a little under 3/4 of a cup. I added some gasoline and used the remote to start it. It started on the third cycle. I am super glad that I didn't have to pull the cord and am glad for the electric starter. The user manual is very well written with proper English grammar and spelling. The warnings are a little repetitive but you need to heed the warnings so that you don't kill yourself or someone else.This exact brand and model is rated as the best generator by Consumer Reports and Popular Mechanics which gave me confidence in my purchase. The ease of starting it, the quality of the brand reputation, and the quality of the generator itself gives me a sense of security. I live in a rural area that is forested and we have enough power outages that this will pay for itself by not having to suffer the inconvenience of no electricity.Be aware that the generator looses some efficiency at higher altitudes. The manual recommends that if you are over 2,000 feet above sea level that you should install the "high altitude kit". I'm at 1,600 ft ASL so I'm good but I was curious to know what that kit is and what installation looked like. It's a few gaskets, an orifice and costs about $15.00. Westinghouse has a very good step-by-step YouTube video showing you how the installation goes which. Installation require any special tools and little mechanical ability. Looks like it would take about 20 minutes to complete. If you're at a higher altitude, be sure to order the appropriate kit with your generator so that you're ready to roll when it's delivered.Delivery from Amazon was a pain. The first one "got lost". So a week later, another was delivered. This happened to me with a desktop computer not too long ago. I think there must be a thief somewhere in the supply chain. They give you a 12 hour time window 8am-8pm that someone has to be home to receive the delivery. Amazon said that the delivery driver would call before they came...they didn't. This unit is well over 200 pounds so you want to keep that in mind. It rolls easily once assembled.
