Q: Do I have to apply the glass kiln wash before use?

yes but you must check that is clean and smooth each time and you can use kiln paper (once only, most often) take care of the dust with all release agents as they break down during firing.Any thing painted or sprayed will need drying to remove water or other medium oven bake , hair dryer low temp (100 degrees c 5 mins not critical so no need to over do it).

Q: Do I need to put the kiln on top of kiln posts inside the microwave and then when I remove it from the microwave?

I've never used kiln posts. My microwave has a glass turn table that it sits on, I've heard some people replace that with a terracotta plant saucer. I have a granite tile I got from a flooring place that I use to set the kiln on when I take it out. I wouldn't leave the kiln in the microwave to cool, I heard that the heat is too much for the interior of the microwave and will eventually damage it. Hope that helps!

Q: How many pieces can you fit in this kiln?

I don't have the kiln where I am, but, there is likely a 4 inch diameter base for fusing. So, like the others indicated, it depends on the pieces you are firing. I can usually fit about 6 or 7 pendant size pieces in one firing.
