Introducing the iOptron SmartStar-G with GPS Entry Level Computerized telescope mount. Our patented Alt-Azimuth Mount, a.k.a. The Cube, rated 4-star by Sky and Telescope Magazine is one of the most functional and flexible unit on the market. Both axis motors are built into a small single unit which is universally compatible with all telescopes using a dove-tail connection. In addition, it has built-in GPS for automatic location inputs. And at only 12 lbs. you can take it anywhere and get accurate tracking! The GoToNova hand Controller on each SmartStar is easy to use with menus for planets, stars, nebulas, and constellations. It also has a large LCD screen with more lines of content compared with the competition (so you don’t have to keep scrolling to read the screen). The controller is designed so you can easily set up your telescope and select where you want to go. With a database of 50,000 celestial objects, including all of the well-known galaxies, nebulae, star clusters-- not to mention the planets, sun and moon-- you’ll be able to enjoy star gazing with the simple push of a button. The SmartStar-G also comes with a built-in USB port for use with planetary/computer software and ASCOM compatible devices. The mount comes standard with an AC connection plug, USB cable, tripod, hand controller, and mount.

Color is not too much of a big deal but i would like it to match my telescope
Well i can't give less than one star, I tried. 1st it was supposed to be the purple model and it turned out to be an orange model. Color is not too much of a big deal but i would like it to match my telescope. Now the really bad... the damn thing doesn't work properly. When you try to move the mount without any load (telescope) you get an "overload" error. With further investigation i have found where someone in the past has tried to losen the large lateral nut to see if that would fix it. The nut was scared up and only finger tight. One of the voltage (detector/regulator?) chips on the circuit board looks like it's burned and a couple look like they got pretty hot. (See pics) My guess is the original costumer sent it back and either they tried to fix it, didn't want to deal with it and resold it or it ended up in stock by accident. Now im having a delema, i have an older ioptron that i could use the GPS in and newer controller will work too i believe. I should probably just send the damn thing back . P.S. after taking a peek inside, there is almost no lithium grease on the worm gear assembly... i wonder if that was the origin of problems plaguing this mount.
