I love the thick padding on heel and toe. And these are exceptionally warm.

These socks are great! I bought these to wear on cold winter nights. At bedtime, I usually wear thick synthetic socks for work boots, but I’m glad I tried these this winter instead. They’re so much warmer, but unfortunately much more expensive too.I can’t compare them to other wool socks, but I’m highly pleased with these and will order at least another pair for a spare. Also, they’re only worn at bedtime or lounging around the house so I can’t speak of their durability when worn with shoes or while working.My house is old, uninsulated, drafty, and without heat, but my feet and lower legs are still comfortable, they’re a definite improvement over synthetic boot socks.I bought these socks in extra large. If your foot size is on the cusp between large and extra large, I suggest buying extra large so you don’t stretch the socks thereby reducing their ability to insulate since they work by holding a buffer of warm air. If the socks are stretched, the “gaps” in the knit are increased. I wear a size 12 shoe and the extra large fit perfectly and reach above my calf, which the large might not reach as high.
