Horse Tack and Saddlery: The Complete Illustrated Guide To Riding Equipment

Some good ideas about tack, and a few items I didn't know existed. However it does need updating as there are now a lot more items available for horses than listed

The book does not go into Australian saddles much. It is loaded with pictures for the novice to see what people are talking about when mentioning equipment around the barn, but does not show how to install it on your horse. Yes, I know: we each have our favorite methods of tacking up, but there are some common basics that most of us use. I would suggest future editions carry a start to finish tack up using both English and again with a Western setup. Then this book will be much better and more appropriate for the intended reader group. 4 stars, because it is not quite there. Due to the large Bits picture gallery, I would suggest it for the Riders's book shelf as a "Keeper".

It is a great quick reference book

Has a lot of information, however, if you're just looking for English tack, this is the book for you. If you're looking for Western, this is not one for you. Although it covers some Western, there is not much (Doesn't even cover bits used for Western riding).

Awesome book, though it's missing a few item that some people thought should be in there. Very informative and I saw some tack that I never saw before.

I really like the illustrations in this book! If you are just learning about horses and what you need for them, this is a great starter book.

OK for beginner

Step by step guide to understand tacking and saddling.Lots of pictures, clear explanations. A good start for beginners and to get familiar with horse riding equipement and terminology.
