Very easy to use. Makes crisp, clean cuts without damaging tiles.
This Rubi Star 24-inch Tile Cutter comes mostly assembled, requiring only installation of the scoring wheel. According to the manufacturer, it’s able to make diagonal cuts up to 17-inches in ceramic, porcelain and glass tile, up to a thickness of 5/8-inch. I was making straight cuts on 12-inch porcelain tile, which this tile cutter is easily able to accommodate. The scoring wheel is effective up to 21-3/4-inches. The construction is all metal, except for the handle grip and a few other non-essential parts. Two strips of grippy, textured rubberized foam help keep tiles from inadvertently moving while cutting. Cuts in tile are made quicker, easier, and with substantially less mess than using a wet tile saw outfitted with a segmented or continuous rim diamond saw blade. You also don’t lose any tile due to kerf thickness, as you would with a saw blade. The tile cutter I received didn’t include a carrying case or instruction manual, which wasn’t an issue since I’m familiar with proper use and technique of tile cutters like this, but a tutorial might be helpful for someone lacking experience. To set the scoring wheel, place a tile you wish to cut on the rubberized pad, tight against the backstop, and insert the scoring wheel into channel at the end of the handle until it rests on the tile. Twist the handle grip to tighten down. To snap the scored tile, simply set the metal pressure plate over the tile and apply gentle pressure by depressing the handle…it’s that simple. The base is narrower than other, more expensive tile cutters, which may be an issue when trying to cut large tile, but performed very well on the 12-in porcelain tiles I was using. Highly recommended
