If you want to heat or curl the hair ,i suggest you find a professional hairdresser ，Temperature needs to be controlled very strictly

As long as your not trying to style them. The hardware will not hold the head stable.

Q: does it work with curlformers?

No idea what a curlformer is. We bought the head to place on top of a dress form. We had to open up the bottom and carve out a cavity so it will slip over the nub of the dress form. Works great for that! John L.

Q: can you use makeup on this?

I don't recommend that you do this. It's have been makeup on the face and it's not easy to wipe off.
