Kettle Moraine Peanut Butter Feeder with Clear Roof (Chocolate)

Downey and Red Bellied Woodpeckers love it, waiting "in-line" to feed.
The Downey and Red Bellied Woodpeckers finish it off almost everyday. We fill only 4-5 buttons per day and keep the other buttons empty for the birds to hang-on from. The Downeys crawl from one side to the other with no problem. Note: Black mold will grow on the chocolate colored synthetic and must be washed off weekly. The birds got used to it in about two weeks. Chickadees and Tufted Titmice also feed here and were the first to feed because they don't need to hand-on (they just grab and go).

Favorite feeder for woodpeckers and wrens!
The photo above is an older wooden model, but when it finally got worn out (after several years of use), I opted for a recycled model as a replacement. The birds had a little adjustment for gripping on this slicker surface, but it didn't take them long to figure it out. We use the Bark Butter on it (comes in a tub, by Wild Birds Unlimited), and generally the birds clean it out in a couple of days, if not sooner! My favorite feeder, by far. I hang this feeder under a larger baffle to provide more rain protection for the bark butter during our Southern summer rain deluges, but the protective shield on it is probably sufficient for most yards. You can't go wrong with this feeder!

don't buy
I have two woodpeckers that visit my yard every day. Neither have shown any interest in this, which by the way I put expensive bark butter in, and it has been up for almost a month. It is also very cheap, not worth the money. Spend your money at Wild birds unlimited. You will pay more, but at least the product will be used.

Took a long time
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY I HAD MY FIRST WOODPECKER!!!! I have only had this out for two months with NO interest from any bird. I wanted to return it but the owner said to give it a bit more time. I did plus I also mixed the peanut butter with some seeds. That seemed to do the trick.

Sturdy, but squirrel stole it
This is a very well-made feeder, with one flaw: the hook doesn't secure the feeder so that squirrels can't make off with it. I have mine on a hanging plant arm, and the dadgum squirrel ran off with it and cleaned it off. We recovered it from the ground nearby. We are currently experimenting with closing the hook into a loop, with duct tape. So far, so good, but an eye instead of a hook would have been better to start with. The feeder is too sturdy to take the hook off and replace it.

Wish it worked
I really wanted to like this feeder - it is so well constructed! But the birds just don't seem to want to eat from it.

Great product idea
Great product idea. However, plastic is slippery for little nuthatches. They end up sticking their feet in other peanut butter holes for traction. Takes a little time for them to get used to using this feeder.
